Anybody still name their guitars?

Most seem to have girls names, but i was thinking of naming my main gigging strat recently and i came to realise i think of it as a male guitar. I dont feel like im caressing a lady when im playing it, more like bonding with a trusted friend.

As its a two tone sunburst strat and im a big buddy holly fan, i was thinking of naming it `charles`, after his birth name charles hardin holly. Buddy seems too obvious and impersonal.

Anyone else got any guitar names and stories that go with them?

I name all of my guitars. I think of my guitars as female as I do with my cars Their names and stories are as follows. I will add photos later when I get home.

Modified 2009 CAR MIM Standard Strat: "Big Red" - I was in the grocery store one day when I spotted a large and very attractive woman with flaming red hair. On her upper right arm she had tatooed "Big Red". I thought it would be a great name for my Strat.

Image

Modified Lyon by Washburn: "Little Red" - This guitar is a guitar show find that I picked up for $55. She is a darker red than my CAR Strat. Since she was my second red guitar, I named her "Little Red".

Image

Modified GRGA32 Ibanez: "Black Beauty" - She's black and beautiful. 'Nuff said.

Image

Modified BSB Squier Affinity Telecaster: "Buttercup" - The butterscotch blond finish is stunning.

Image

Modifed Yamaha Bass: "Deep Red" - Yes, the bass is red. Basses play deep notes. Hence the name.

Image

I don't name my amps or pedals, though.

If my guitars get named, it's never contrived. If they have a name, they do, if not, they don't.

They vary in gender... for example, my PRS is definitely a girl- she's called Pippa- and the red Strat I have is definitely a bloke. He just gets called Red, mostly. Or something slightly stronger if something goes wrong.

The Lone Star is currently androgynous.

I used to own a guitar named after an unrequited love. Much like its namesake, it didn't love me back.

I dont name my guitars after guys/girls. Its more like a spiritual thing to me. I look at it, picture it in my head, picture myself with it in different scenarios, then come up with a vocabulary that fits it.

This is Shadow, the name given to my metallic blue Squier affinity strat.

This is my 2010 MIJ standard strat in candy apple red. Her name is Passion. Not sure how i got the name, it just came to mind. Red has always been my favourite color, and in love, red presents passion.
