Hey all,

I have a question...

1) I have a 2010 Fender Standard Strat (MIM) that I absolutely love, but I've noticed the past week or so that the pickup selector makes a slight crackle noise when switching. The noise only happens when I'm playing and the chord or note is sustained and I try to switch to another pickup. If I simply switch the pickup selector with no notes playing there is no noise. Is this normal or does the guitar have an issue I need to fix?

Thanks!

You might try removing the pickguard and spraying some DeOxit on the switch's contacts -- it's possible you may have some minor corrosion that's causing the noise.

Thanks guys. Is there a standard household product that would work?

DeOxit is the best. You can find it at Home Depot, Lowe's, Ace Hardware, and maybe Radio Shack.

You might try spraying some of it into a plastic cup and then apply the material to the contacts with a fine sable artist's brush. You get it precisely where it needs to go and not all over anything else. Even the fine tubes that come with some of these agents don't give you the limited, precise control that's needed.

Alternatively, If you flick the switch back an forth several times you may be able clear any grimy bits that may have accumulated.
