Hi, here a question from The Netherlands!

My question is: I can buy a wine red Fender 1979, large headstock, tremelo version, MAPLE neck. There is some players wear on the body. The pu are not original. The pots are orginal and says the guitar is produced in the 20th week in 1980 (codes are 1378020). The pickquard looks original even the bridge. It looks not refrettted and the frets are still in ok condition.
The case is not original. The seller gives a tweet case with the guitar.

He wanted to have 900 euros for it. This is actual the same as 1303,74 American dollar. Is that a nice price or is it overpriced?

Please I hope you give comments. I like the guitar but I wanted to be sure about the price.

I have no picture from the guitar.....

Greatings from The Netherlands!

If the pots date are 1980 this guitar is not a 1979 . The price seems good if you try AND like the guitar. Do you know the brand of the pick up ?

Those guitars have not good reputation

I have a 1980 all original strat with original case and 100 % mint . I paid $1,500. I don't like it very much, iI prefer my two other strat 1999 de luxe and 1995 american standard.

It´s a very good price for Europe. I would buy a 1980 big headstock anyday for that price (if it´s in overall good condition and has a good sound plays well).

Cheers,
Robin

As long as the pickups are original that $1,300 (or $900 Euros) seems reasonable to me even with the non-original case for a 1980. Fender used those S9XXXXX (1979) serial numbers from 1979 through as late as early 1982 (the 1982s would be the last of the big headstock Strats). The original case in 1980 could have been either a rectangular plastic molded case (this was standard) or an optional black tolex case - Fender eventually dropped the black tolex case sometime between 1980 and 1982.
