what would you get? EC sig strat or GIBSON les paul

i was jamming with a buddy last night i had my srv strat he had his les paul, we swapped guitars for a while and i really was liking the tone i was getting.
he has a gibson custom shop 68 with a 60s neck, ebony fret board and classic 57s pickups. im not sure if this is tri burst, but...

side note, it also has binding on front and back of the body. really heavy les paul by the way

Its a beauty.Most of the Lesters made by Gibson are either weight relieved or chambered ,but I prefer the heavier body.It gets more sustain.My Epi Custom weighs in at about 10 lbs.

Not a bad colour match and more of a faded burst quality to the paint than the Whats-his-face signature edition. (looks too yellow to my eye). Much closer to the original. (I'm sure thats what you've pictured there.)

Greenie does use strats a lot these days. However his guitar collection is a odd bod assortment of little known pieces. As always he takes the road less traveled.
During the height of his career he used a strat to record Albatross and Need your love so bad (A 54 sunburst, he and Jeremy Spencer had one each). The rest of the stuff is that 58 Les Paul that he gave to Gary Moore for £125.

is your friend any closer in getting his porsche? are you purchasing it or borrowing it,

I think he's doing OK on the Porsche front.

I'll echo Xhefri's comment about having to use all the controls on a Clapton circuit. I've never played a guitar thats controls are so interactive. You need to work em all to get the right sounds. It's definitely not just a turn it to ten and play guitar.

the day i tried the clapton, it took me a while to get the feel for the knobs, once i did, i was playing single coil tones to thick tones, it was a lot of fun.
if i end up keeping the standard, ill wire it with clapton electronics.

Yesterday, I went to a different store, tried the Clapton
And a standard les Paul.
Between those 2 the Clapton hands down. The assymetric
Neck felt over done. 2nd gib STD les Paul that I couldn't
Get the feel for. The electronics looked very complicated,
I haven't the slightest clue if that's better or worse.
(speaking pots and wiring) looks a circuit board
The traditional has Gibson pots and soldering.
So it's between the ec strat, trad, the r8 is not off the table
Yet, newly on the table are es 335,339, keeping options
Open.

+1 maybe "sound" the same (or close to it) nut not "feel" the same by any means! I have to admit, as much as I love my Gibson's the EC Strat I have has a silky smooth, wonderful feeling. (Please do not tell my wife I said that). :shock:

Mine is SE 902XXX I was told these serial number on the EC and Beck Strats can be off several years. I took off my neck and it did have a 1989 stamped on it. I do not play it very much as I want to keep it pristine. So only on special occasions!

Mine's lower than that. Three digits on the end. Yep. We have been down the serial # road elsewhere to the nines. I have yet to pull the guitar apart. I'm waiting for the Music Zoo to relocate. It'll be more convenient for me to have them do it at that time. John said they'd photodocument it for me as well. Mine's been very well kept by the first owner but that high gloss you get on your guitars is quite something.

comparing apples to oranges... fair enough..
between those 2 i couldnt get the feel for the les paul standard.
previously, days or a week before, i tried the standard against the traditional, and immediately felt a connection with the traditional's fat neck, tone, playability..
im trying to find something different, not a les paul that can play like a strat..
