A jamming buddy of mine paid close to 3 grand for a '09 L.P. and has had nothing but trouble with it since-especially with regard to tuning. When I bought my L.P. Trad. Pro I opted for the Epiphone-I didn't even consider the Gibson for a second- and for just over $500 I got a tone that nails the PAF tone dead on plus has the option of coil split that the Gibson has.The best L.P. I've ever played was an Epi 1959 reissue-for sound, finish and playability it was the most sublime Les Paul I ever had my hands on and it was just a tad over $1,000.

All that being said I think that the Clapton would be the better choice ...or...for a lot less than either you could buy one of the aforementioned Epis and a Jimmie Vaughn Strat and have 2 killer guitars for a lower price.

that is good point too, i am selling an am std strat though.
if an epi, itll probably be the les paul tribute or the slash, the quality build on those are awesome.

Nothing beats a great Strat nicely tweaked!

Big diff in necks. I would get the EC because I love the neck profile over the les Paul.

My Les Paul looks and sounds great, but I've never liked the material that Gibson uses for their nuts.

The EC strat can sound a lot closer to a humbucking sound than the LP to a single coil strat. In fact, the LP will never sound like a strat no matter how you adjust the knobs.

Hmmmf now I have jealousy to battle.

Is that the whats-his-name signature guitar that Gibson incorrectly named? If so what did you pay? I must know. Their up for around the 4.5K mark here.

BareKnuckles make a PG pickup set that doesn't do a bad job of recreating that sound. The guy I bought my Plexitone from has a Traditional with them fitted.
However the real way to get the job done is to take the guitar to Charlie Chandlers. They had the original apart, so I think I'll twist their arms up their backs with some green folding lucre.

Who knows what Pete's crazy brain did to that pickup. I think I may just go out to Sweden, track him down and lend him the guitar.

Nevin, here's what is winging it's way to me in July. Courtesy of a very graceful race car driver.

Not a bad colour match and more of a faded burst quality to the paint than the Whats-his-face signature edition. (looks too yellow to my eye). Much closer to the original. (I'm sure thats what you've pictured there.)

ChromeFace.

Greenie does use strats a lot these days. However his guitar collection is a odd bod assortment of little known pieces. As always he takes the road less traveled.
During the height of his career he used a strat to record Albatross and Need your love so bad (A 54 sunburst, he and Jeremy Spencer had one each). The rest of the stuff is that 58 Les Paul that he gave to Gary Moore for £125.

I got good mileage getting the Pete Green sound on a strat. Put a SCN in the middle position of a Clapton guitar. A VN in the neck. Now both of those pickups are permanently out of phase to each other. I, after spending hours swapping wires around, can only surmise it's due to magnet polarity.
So put the guitar in the neck/mid position. Turn the volume to 6. Turn the midboost up to 8, turn the tone down to 1 and you're getting near Greenieland.

Closest I've heard to that sound out of anything.

Though come July and a very fortunate meeting, I'll be dedicating my playing to The Green Manalishi on a LP. I'll be trying the magnet flip mod too.

That would be an interesting concept, I am putting the option on
The table to claptonize my hr 57, but I do like the tone
It's very usable right now. Regret is my fear in this case.

So now my mate Niki wants to mod up the guitar I twisted his right arm to buy some nearly 4 years back. This is the guy who almost jumped the pond when I merely whispered the thought of refinishing my '89 Clapton in grigio silverstone paint. But....I digress.
When you call up the Clapton owners on these Forums your gonna a slew of opinions, particulary from those of us who own both the guitars you're asking about. My answer to you is to do just that, if and when it is fiscally available to you. This is why: Set up an amp channel for a Clapton, even at full boost, and then swap out the Strat for the LP. What happens????.... You blow the windows out, that's what. :!: :!:

It's really an apples and oranges situation, and the best of both worlds is the answer, when you're ready, of course.

If you decide to refinish your 89 EC in daphne blue, your guitar will resemble closely to AFL's daphne blue guitar rather than Eric's. This because Andy used a Daphne Blue Strat with Lace Sensors during the One More Car world tour in 2001.

If you already watched the Staples Center concert, you'll surely know what I mean.

Doc the difference is that Pewter is a ace colour. Gregarious silver is quite run of the mill as far as I'm concerned.

They were just musings, in either finish. Niki is quite correct, for any instrument of that ilk. It would be foolish not to keep that '89 stock, of course.
