So, I was testing a MIJ Strat today and i loved it, the guy who owned it said that it's from the end of 80's... I was just wondering that it didn't say "Made in Japan" behind the neck, it was under the Stratocaster -text in the headstock. Is that normal? And how many letters do the MIJ Strat serial numbers have?

Get the right one and it will be one of your best instruments once you mod the electrics........ Has to be a E series....or the earlier JV.... Has to have made in Japan on headstock.... The one with the normal floating trem and the Gotoh tuners it's the one, not the other monster bridge and locking nuts there bombs.........Squiers are Just as good..... Cheapest great vintage instrument you will ever buy...

Normal? There were some models with the "MIJ" on the headstock.

How many letters? Usually 1. Followed by numbers.

Ok so the serial number is G + six numbers. I found out that it's made in 87-88, and yes it does have Gotoh tuners and all. The pickup switch has been changed. I can't post pics because I haven't got any:( But yes it plays fantastically and im 99% sure that I'll buy it:)
so 730 dollars (500e) is ok price?

In MY Personal opinion that is too much for what sounds like a MIJ Standard Strat.

The MIJ RI's ('54, '57, '62, and '68) all had Vintage Kluson tuners. While the '72RI's (3 bolt neck) and Standard's (4 bolt neck) had modern Gotoh tuners.
