Just bought an American Special HSS. I have played dozens of American Strats that other people own and swear by and tons of them in the stores... as silly as it may sound...

The American Special that I just bought is BY FAR the guitar that fits me the best. The Texas Special Pickups in the neck and middle, the Atomic Humbucker in the bridge, the greasebucket tone circuit, the satin neck, the sound, the sustain and the feel of this guitar are more suited for me than any other guitar I have ever played. It fits like a glove. Feels like it was made in the Custom Shop to fit my ear and feel perfectly.

I know it's not a $2200 signature model or a $4000 custom shop special. I know I'm still in the honeymoon stage with it. But it is amazing!

My first. a '58, which I acquired from close friend of mine nearly 50 years ago and which CBS-Fender murdered in the summer of 1969. The tale's been twice-told elsewhere but if hindsight were foresight, I'd still have it in its original condition.

My favorite strat is my highly modified MIM black strat. I have a MIA strat but this particular MIM is by far my favorite.

Right now, it is my MIA Fiesta Red '62 Reissue, that has been tweaked and modded quite a bit:

One of these days, I'm going to break down (and pay out some big bucks) to build my "dream" Strat; it will be quite similar to the one pictured above (same finish, pickups and accessories), but will be hard tail, with a bigger neck profile (between SRV and the old Beck signature model) and an ebony fretboard.
