In a previous thread I promised to dig out a link I had to an excellent site that provides lots of interesting information. Found it, & here it is:

So everything produced after 1966 was a waste of wood? 1966 onwards fenders were "ruined"????? I will take it with a pinch of salt...;)

But a very interesting website

I didn't see where it said post '66 was a waste of wood, and the only place in the intro that I saw where a form of the word "ruined" was used was when the 3-bolt necks and cast bridges were used in the early '70s,"ruining" the tone.
It's pretty well accepted that after the CBS takeover,it was a few years until the downhill slide in quality occured, but it did happen, grain of salt or not....where were you when it happened?? I was just starting my teens in '66.

The CBS takeover wasn't the end of the world but I well remember the older friends of mine who were musicians at the time complaining in the late '60s of poor quality....now late '60s and '70s CBS produced guitars and amps fetch high "vintage" prices,I for one don't even like to see pre-CBS Strat prices in the $35-40,000 range, those of us who have owned them in the past know just because something is pre-CBS,that doesn't mean it's the holy grail, some were just common sounding.

btw,I didn't mean to come off harsh sounding,it's because of websites like that, that perpetuate the pre'CBS mythical qualities.
Modern Strats are nothing to scoff at. :)

And the pre-CBS guitars certainly had their share of quality issues!

Green "white" pickguards anyone?
