Hi there,
I just bought me a 1999 MIM standard stratocaster, but i would like to change the pickus in it.
I have a spare of 1996 Tex-Mex neck and middle and Custom Shop Fat 50' bridge.
The bridge pup from the Tex mex set gave 7.4K but i dropped it on the floor and its broken now, the neck of this set is 6.4 and the middle 6.2K
The Fat 50 brigdge is weaker and gives only 6.2K for a neckposition isent that rather light?
So my question is, would these three together give a deasent sound, will they match or sound like crap.
Or should I symply buy another set of Tex-Mex pups?
Many thanks

Right...put 'em in and see how they sound, adjust the height of each for the best sound and balance...it might be what you want.

the nek pups in my one fender are 5.7k... sounds awsome, the higher the k rating the more trebble and glassy it sounds, the less, the more fat and satisfying it sounds...

With all due respect, this is not true.

ok yes not always, different pups have different sounds and no 2 pups will sound exactly the same, but for closley matched pups a lower k rating will be the "deeper" sounding pup... to a point...

Ok, thanks, the answer from Mars gave me nothing to build further on execpt a true answer and some true followers of the red planet guitar wooze who came allong..

Martian, Just step of the this red planet thing and become someone into the Fender legacy, I know you can, be a legend, because you're name is all over the place here.
I was just looking how a Fat 50 was sounding like in the bridge position, thats all..
Martian I don't question you're expertice, but loose the waterhead and the black clothes or that crommy spaceship that gets you to earth
Why don't you go completely public on the Fender Lounge, so forget the green slime and bolding eyes from your head and methodic articultition, and don't miss this oppurtunuty to be somebody into the Fender legacy!!!!
Be a moderator whether Fender likes or not!!!!
Just apply, otherwise the Fender Lounge would be rather dull without you....
Great expectations Fenderastic...

Again, with all due respect, you have this backwards and slightly askew.

"K" is what you are calling resistance when in reality, it means a thousand. For example, 5K ohms = 5,000 ohms.

Using a 5K ohm coil as an example, the more windings on this coil, the more it will be beefier, "deeper" or whatever and less glassy than if the same coil with the same gauge wire and traverse had only say, 4K ohms worth of winds; and then there's the magnetic and component factors as well.

Of note is the fact that closely matched coil resistances in this context are irrelevant. Notwithstanding, typically, when two Strat pickups are on together (in parallel), the ohms of both pickups are added up and quartered for their resistance in the circuit.

Again, I'm not trying to pick any kind of skirmish here as those here who know me know I don't play that. PLEASE believe me, I'm just trying to keep the facts straight, that's all.

I guess we did indeed miss this, "Infallible Web Dogma" physics lecture!

I thank you for your this tremendous compliment! I'd rather stay anonymous though for by doing so, it preserves me from any obligations other than being civil and truthful when I do choose to post. Now if FMIC wants to pay me, that's a whole other story which I doubt VERY strongly will ever happen.

martain - no skirmish intended, im no expert, but from my "limited" messing around with pups it "seemd" to me and generally a 5k pup will have a deeper sound than a 12k running as a single without running parallel with another pup, i know about windings and guage of the copper used, thats y i LOVE the sound of a overwound TS which i now have in most of my guitars...

peace out man!
