Hi!
I just bought a new American Deluxe Strat from http://www.americanmusical.com/ and Im having some issues that I need advice with.

My open D string has a horrible buzz that isnt changed by adjusting the bridge. Also when ever I bend my high E string more than a half step, a note resonates without me picking it.

Normally I'd just return the guitar but once I plugged it in I fell in love with the tone and feel and I don't want them to give me another.

Does this stuff sound like something a professional set up can fix or does it sound more like a nut that needs to be replaced?

It 'should' be able to be fixed, but it will cost you some....maybe more than you
want to additionally spend?

Just for the sake of diagnostics, try this: Loosen the D string and lift it up out of the nut. Put a small piece of paper (thin writing paper about 1/4 inch x 1/4 inch) over the slot in the nut and then put the string on top of it and tighten the string. See if that fixes the problem. If so the nut was cut a bit too deep or big for the D string. It is worth a shot to see if that be the problem.

This clearly sounds like a warranty issue due to a bad nut. Take your guitar to an authorized Fender Service Center which has a COMPETENT tech within. Do not presume otherwise; verify said tech's competence! It shouldn't cost you anything. Or, go to a private COMPETENT tech but you will get charged.

Check your neck relief. If your neck is too straight, or back bowed, your axe will do the things you described. Before I altered ANYTHING, I would add a little relief by loosening the truss rod just a touch. Sometimes nut issues are mis-diagnosed, and a back-bowed neck allows open strings to buzz easily just as if the nut were worn or cut too low. ;) try all the set-up adjustments before doing any fretwork or having a new nut made :D Trust me! I speak from YEARS of experience!!!!!
