92 to 75 north will take ya right to rome.

oh thats a book your talking about i was thinking it was a price guide of sorts.
still thats only $120 difference in the price. i might can buy that. you can see that today depending on location differences. i know when i was up in MI in january i saw price differences that big on new gear and up to $400 on used guitars compared to down here in the south.

yeah rome isnt far. 45 minutes if traffic is bad. they say there is a quicker way going back roads, i dont know them though. i use to work with a couple guys that lived up there.
rome is just 10 minutes north of cartersville. as long as traffic is flowing through emerson things should be fine. traffic will slow down there. emerson will put 1 of 3 cops they have up on the highway just to cause problems. emerson will pull you over if they think your socks dont match or they dont like the way the wind blows your hair.

In 1972 after playing a gig in Huntsville,Al. we were on our way back to Hotlanta in two cars, and in Rome Ga. at about 3:30 am the Ga. State Police pulled us over because we were "ridin' low"...which meant they thought we were running moonshine, the cars were just loaded with music equipment and dead tired musicians...good thing we had already smoked the illegal weed we had.
that's what I think of whenever I hear of Rome Ga. :)

i dont go up that way much anymore.
the business i had up that way and i split up several yrs ago.
man i hated passing emerson at night. so few cars on the road. there is 2 exits for that
town. the cop would just loop the exits. they are like 3 miles apart. he would get up on yout tail and try to get you on edge just so you might screw up.
i dont see how the people that live up there do it. emerson/red top mountain area should be avoided if possible after dark.

I will be interested in seeing how this auction plays out.
The guitar looks good to me,the neck date and body date and serial number fall into place.
The letter from Gruhn looks authentic compared to one I have from '07,the printed format on the letter has changed but the handwriting and other figures look good.
But I'm not a collector who knows the very small details that some look for like small holes in the body made during finishing.
The small view under the pickguard looks authentic on what I can see...like the cap.
I would like to see it in person to see the patina on the switch and solder joints and the back of the pups.....but,I'm not going to see it or bid...but I'll watch.

it will be interesting. if its legit, i think the guy sold himself short going ebay.
with all the added paperwork this set could bring a nice price from the right collector.
i personally dont like the bidding game, it keeps me on edge to much. i wouldnt sleep the whole 9 days this is up for bidding lol.
the thing that gets me about this, it seems like such a big part of the dearly departed's life to just auction off. i couldnt just put dads stuff up for sell like this.
sure if there was something major happening in my life, but there was, i wouldnt go about it like this. i dont think there is cause its up for 9 days.

Sure,if it was financed at an interest rate, just like things are done now, although the interest was a lot lower then.
The music store letter states that there was a payment of $16.15 due to the bank, which inidcates it was financed at the bank....because the music store covered the payment, and is asking for their money from the Strat owner.
The seller has added some info at the bottom in regards to those who think the auction could be a scam...and that no side deals or premature ending of the auction will occur.
I think the seller is placing too much faith on eBayers and that the final result will be a good thing for both seller and buyer.

Will probably end around 30 thousand give or take how much some buyer really wants it. You could do better than this guitar in this market.

Even if I had the cash for a '57 I would not buy this guitar.

The amp should have listed separate.

I would have split up everything, guitar, amp, case in different auctions. That will stir the pot. 8)

That much...Damn... I would prefer a 60's at a nick price of 13..plus a bit maybe 15...

If i were him I would keep it and play it silly till the frets wore flat !!

Well, if it is a legit seller and you lack the financial resources to purchase it, then I'd suggest setting up a group of investors to purchase it. Your goal though is to have the items appreciate and then do a 1031 exchange for something else (another guitar). Not as much fun as being the outright owner but at least you could be a part owner.

eBay is not the right place for selling an item which needs to be examined before you buy it.

I guess a lot of people have this one on their watchlist. It'll soar up in the last 30 minutes, that's my guess.

Cheers

David
