the bad thing is the seller is not to bright. the current bid is at $4K plus. he will never get what this set is worth on ebay. its all the paper work that he has that can drive the value up big time to collectors. i honestly think he should have planned this sell better than he did.

(the guy below the ad asking inquiring about the set) he's a good luthier.

Why don't y'all just let the cat out of the bag concerning your doubts about the guitar and amp instead of all the melodramatics?

"They indicate that the Strat sold new for $395.00"

If all this is for real the guy needs to be commited. The guitar alone would be worth at least $28,000 and the amp $1,250 according to the V.G. Price Guide-it smells off to me,surely nobody could be that dim.

$28,000 is just the lowest price that they quote and that would be for one with more than average wear on it,his would probably be closer to the $35,000 that would go for a near mint '57. or maybe because of the wear on it about $32,000-$33,000.Custom Colours and Mary Kaye Strats are the ones commanding the really high prices-up to $65,000 for a mint '57 Mary Kaye.

hum, again this is from a price guide?
not knocking a price guide but a lot of folks tend to forget the "guide" word in there.
this could prove to be interesting. maybe i should go looksee at this offering, see if i can get the real poop and some extra pics.

thats just a "guide" though. supply and demand could have shaped the price as well.
