I never gave much thought to hand wound pups..Then one day i traded a vintage Pearl Analog delay pedal for a set of John Suhr V60LP (Vintage 60's low output)..
They are just amazing pickups ..Since they opened my eyes to hand wounds i have given the Fralin Blues pups a try with the same results.Just amazing..This is not to say that Dimarzzio and Duncan aren't quality pups but there is something to the whole hand wound thing..I'm not technical i can't tell you why bt i can tell you what my ears tell me..

Just for the record, Rayne is a strat guy himself but he winds pups, and any pup can go in any guitar. Every piece of the makeup matters in your decision for what you want. Research all the magnet choices because that's huge, they are also easy to change if you are handy at all. My new set is bridge humbucker with Alnico 8 mag wound hot to about 16.7k, the neck hb is an alnico 5 wound to about 8.7. I don't have the final specs yet but that's roughly what I requested. He also has vintage wire options and can do anything with single coils. Good luck on your hunt for tone dude, there are alot of great winders out there. I just prefer the hands on small guy approach, I can call Rayne anytime and if there is question I get an answer, plus if I don't like the end result (which hasn't happened yet) he will rewind it to taste.

I would invite him here to answer questions for you guys but I don't want people freaking out because he IS in the business of making/selling pups. That being said if you want to find him just for info about the makeup of pickups he is on the Marshall forum and he goes by captcoolaid. There is some good info there about wax potting and magnet switching in your pups and whatnot. Sorry for the book lol

I've bought pickups from Jason Lollar @ Lollar pickups, also Lindy Fralin, and Van Zandt.
of those, the Lollars would be my first choice, followed by the Van Zandts...just personal choice.
All of those makers have websites.

Another technical question about the pickups, do you experience any humming sound while playing these pickups? Thanks again... :)
