Howdy,

Trem claw screws are usually 1 1/2" (38mm) long.

Personally, I wouldn't have any less that 17mm in the wood but then I'm a bit heavy with the trem.

You could always use longer screws.

In the back panel of a strat where the springs are i put 4 springs and I am going to loosen the screws because I don't need them as tight when I have the more springs. I need to know how much can I loosen the screw and it still be ok? how long are the screws? Im afraid the screws would pull from the body of the guitar because their under tention from springs.

Hi TheJake: first question you need to answer is why you went to four springs from three? There's good reasons a guy might want to do that: I'm curious as to which of those reasons was yours.

Either way, you will need to let the screws out till the back of the trem is sitting about 1/8" above the face of the guitar when the strings are tuned to pitch - if you like a floating trem. You will find that the screws are plenty long enough for that adjustment without any danger of dragging out of the wood. So don't worry.

Cheers - C
