Hi folks,

I am planning on getting a CS Strat. At the moment it is just a plan with a somewhat distant realization, probably. I know nothing special about them, other than that they are built from finer woods which makes them lighter and more resonant, obviously better pup's, and of the greatest interest to me, special necks. By special I mean necks with very high "grain" or how should I call it, maybe "flamed" is the right expression? But what bugs me is that there are CS strat's that have necks that look the same as American Standards, which sucks $@!.

Basically, I would like to have a brief intro into what makes CS's special, why should I cough up 2500-3000$ on one and why are only some necks grainy, while other even more expensive ones aren't.

My goal is to acquire one with a rosewood fretboard, with the maple on the back of the neck as defined/grained as possible. Preferably in black or darker finishes. And of course, not the retarded 10 grand catalogue ones which makes me want to play a Squire, but rather something up to 3-4 grand tops. There are numerous one circling on ebay always, but I don't even know what I info I should have before even looking, so please, give me a hand.

Thanks for reading..

Do you plan on actually playing this instrument or merely hanging it on a wall to be oohed and aahed over as interior accent decor?

Primarily, yes, that's the idea. I might pluck a high E every now and then. Now how about that little ol' brief..

the custom shop guitars are built better meaning that there is alot more attention to detail on fit and finish and also electronics. ie: the frets are leveled and dressed perfectly, neck heel to pocket is exact, electronics - cloth wiring and usually hand wound pickups. If reliced the work is exceptional. This is just to name a few as there are many advantages. Last but not least any custom shop guitar with hold its value more so than a regular run guitar.
