when i installed my duncan, i rearranged all the wiring to mimic a lonestar. i got everything right, but now the muddle tone pot doesnt work. heres the diagram i used. is it possible that i burned the resistor from soldering too hot?

I see no resistor in your diagram.

I have not wired a guitar like this, but I'm a EE. The issue that I can see potentially happenning is if you have either tone pot case, nut or washer touching any shielding, which would be grounded by the volume pot case. If there's aluminum shielding on the back of the pick guard, you'll need to cut a ring around where the pots attach. If they were grounded, the 1uF would do absolutely nothing since the shielding would short it.

That being said, your diagram with a shorted set of pots would result in a fairly standard strat setup.....assuming those 2 caps are something like 10nF each (0.001uF) case would read 103 or somewhere there abouts.

Each tone pot should still do something for its particular pickup.

Howdy!

Your middle pup tone control is wired incorrectly. You need to swap the Cap and the wire going to the 5 way over.

Job done. :D

BTW: That's a shocking diagram. I'm pretty sure the Fender use a 5 way super switch to split the coils on the Lonestar Humbucker.

i think you wired it autosplit,
that is when the switch is inbetween the middle and bridge, it splits the humbucker, and makes this position humcancelling.
the problem is that there is no tone control with this wiring arrangement. the middle pickup isnt connected to a tone pot.
is the middle pickup overly bright?

oops. i meant cap.

it is auto-split, and no the middle single sounds normal.

you have it wired like this sorta
http://www.dimarzio.com/sites/default/f ... bridge.pdf
with a exception of the wire crossing over the switch.

ok. so now i have it wired according to the diagram on duncan's actual website for HSS, 1 volume, 2 tone, 5 way, auto-split. i found a piece of solder that had dripped down and grounded out on the shielding. so i removed it, and everything worked fine. so i put it back together and now NEITHER tone pots work. i can't find a single problem, and they still dont do jack $@!&. having to remove hte pickguard everytime i want to look at the wiring is a serious pain in the $@!. i'm already starting to hate strats.

Hi Rumblebox

Did you miss my earlier post? All you needed to do was swap the wires over on the lower tone pot!

Top tip: before screwing the pickguard down do a tap test on the pickups and cycle through the 5way and pots to make sure everything works.

i normally do a screwdriver scrape test on the pole pieces to make sure the proper coils are activated on whichever pickup. testing the tone control is as easy as listening to the buzz.

the wiring i originally had was correct. as it turns out, the pots are defective. so i replaced them with the others from my original pickguard, and it works fine now.

Yeah, I have modified, remodified , tear it down and rewire
And found that single coil wiring is easy, when it comes down
To 4 cond wire humbucker, it gets more complicated.
My am standard is wired ssh ts, ts, hotrails no split.
Have patience, take your time, I use the same old strings
And learned to screw 2 screws on the pg, string it up , test.
Yeah it is a pain .
Glad you figured it out, replaced the pots.
