Okay, now I know some will say it's a matter of personal preference so on and so forth, but let it be said - I'm not looking to buy any of these guitars.

What I wonder is whichever guitar is the most for the money?

we have the Highway One which is an American Strat without the "fancy stuff" (crudely phrased, I know) ie. thinskin finish and other things that reduce the price.

The classic player strats are made in mexico, but designed by custom shop people and have american pickups and America-made necks.

The classic players are a tad bit cheaper, but it's close enough to put the guitars in the same price range.

Both guitars have excellent reviews from various guitar pages and magazines, but what do you guys think?

Sorry, but I would say this is a no brainer. On average, the HWY1 series will be better instruments. I've read numerous posts in this forum where owners of both the American series and the HWY1s prefer their HWY1 over the more expensive Americans!

The classic player 60s has a massive chunky-McChunkson neck. It's so horrible. And it isn't even fast. Appauling. Go for a Highway one. American made will always surpass Mexican made, no matter what model.

I haven't tried the 60's strat, but I own a classic player 50's and a 2006 Highway One and out of the two I like the pickups and the soft V-neck of the Mexican strat but I also like the Highway One's finish that wears so much more nicely  So each guitar has its own fields where it beats the other.

I would be one of them. Of all the guitars I currently have, it is my 07 sunburst hwy1 strat that I play the most and has really become my #1 axe. Mine is still completely stock, and the pickups are fantastic IMHO. The bridge pickup specially sound great with distortion, sound similiar to a P90. Great guitar indeed.

Hi there,
I own a MIM Classic Player 50s, 2-tone-sunburst, and I can only recommend this guitar! It's lovely! I was very unfamiliar with the soft-v-neck for the first couple of days (I was used to much thinner necks) but now I love it! I like to play (or: I try to play) Knopfler style, and this guitar really is perfect for that. The medium-jumbo-frets were new to me, too, but they are great if you keep in mind to play the guitar very gently.
I also tried a MIA Custom Strat with the same neck, but I found hardly any difference.
2 thumbs up for the CP 50s!

I thought the Classic 50's had Vintage Frets ????
I have owned several HWY-1 Strats and all have been exceptional guitars.
I have wanted and played a few classic 50's (love the maple neck and Surf Green ) however have never been able to love the neck profile.

That being said, I do believe the Mexi Strats being made today are the best bargain out there !!!!

under 400 bucks new and ya got yourself a fine instrument.

Classic 50s: Vintage Style
Classic PLAYER 50s: Medium Jumbo (that's mine)

There are quite a lot of differences between the 2 guitars, just have a look at the specs...

I've owned two American strats: a standard and a plus deluxe. I've owned a Classic Player 50's since September 07. I have to say that this MIM strat is a better sounding, feeling, and playing guitar than my US strats. The CP50 has the features I love: alder body, American Vintage PUs, maple (lightly flamed!) V-neck, vintage-look locking tuners, a large trem block, med jumbo frets. The finish is a thin-base poly (would have loved a nitro finish but what do you expect?). It also has the stamped steel saddles mounted on a dual point fulcrum system. The tone is fantastic. This guitar is lighter and more resonate than my other strats. I had a pro set up done on it and it plays like a dream. I have some other really good guitars but I find myself grabbing this one more often than the others. If you like a vintage sound with a modern feel and playability, the CP50 (not to be confused with the Classic 50's) is definitely worth a look. If you want more of a modern strat sound you may not like it.

You know, the first thing I thought about the CP50s' clean tone was that it sounded almost exactly like Knopfler's "Sultans" tone:D
