I am going to buy a new guitar and the last one bought was in 1998 . this time I decided to get a Fender and the American Special is the one I am targeting. Checked out a few at GC and I am favoring the HSS but wished it had the Floyd Rose tremolo on it , perhaps preferance as I dont want to have tuning issues in flight . but the American made one does not come with the FR on it , only the Mex made and I am told it is 7 pieces of wood joined together as opposed to 2 pieces of wood joined together, the American one is reported to have , I play a Ibanez and love it easy to slid , the Fender is more wear on the finger tips if I do that , still , I am looking for a different sound that the fender provides , for some songs , I would lower the action I think right off for me , I noticed a string slap sound on to the fret as I play, I think would be corrected lowering the action any thoughts... , on the guitar , or technique ,or properties of the guitar I am leaning toward

welcome to the forum.

let me start by telling you that im a very big fan of the floyd rose.
have been since the very early 80's. the floyd is a great tremolo
and does what it was designed to do better than any other tremolo
out there except the older shaller version and one of the ibanez
versions (cant remember which one by name) ive build faith in them
over the yrs enough to swear by and to bet the farm on. however, it wasnt until i got on this forum and got to talking with people and doing some reading
elsewhere to back up the claims that some of the folks on there were
making. lets just say that out of the many things i was educated on, and
had my eyes opened to since joining this forum, the standard Fender trem
was the first. after yrs of loyalty to the floyd and its design, im now convinced
by education and now experience, that the standard Fender trem can be used
with the same expectations that i have for the floyd. the trem can be used
as well as heavy bending w/o going out of tune. all it takes are a few extra steps
and some education. the only thing you cant really do is serious hard whammy
like by grabbing the bar and just shaking the hell out of it, which is something i dont do
any more. ive come to realize that the tremolo is infact and should be treated like a
solely different instrument. its an instrument of expression and should be properly learned
how to use independently of the guitar.
(not saying you dont know that but explaining the education i got on the tremolo here)
like i said, there are a few extra steps than need to be taken and a bit of education that goes with it to have a regular tremolo and to be able to use it with GREAT results.
so in my guitar picking, i no longer require a floyd and now my guitar choices are limitless.
the reason why i tell you all this is because i once had the same requirments that you just mentioned and now i dont. being limitless is now also painless.
do i still have guitars with the floyd? yes i do, many of them. thing is, knowing what i know now, the floyd isnt as desireable as they once were, infact, i almost avoid them.
i almost think they arent worth the hastle.
with knowing proper setup of a guitar, a properly cut nut, and some lubrication in key points the locking nut hassle's are a thing of the past. now i will tell you that i use
locking tuners (a God send) as well, but there are guys on here that refuse to use them and get the same results as i do. if your interested in what im talking about feel free to ask questions. plenty of people will chime in on it im sure.
again welcome to the forum and we hope you have a great time enjoying all this forum has to offer.
