ok guys i'm at home this weekend so i decided to finally test out my black mim after it's setup i played for hours and i noticed that the action was high (i normally play with low action but i played it no problem) a few minutes later i grabbed my olympic white squier vm strat and i couldn't play it cause it felt like i had no strings... does that mean i like a high action? or does it only mean that i played it for too long and i just needed to play my vm a bit longer? which do you prefer low or high action?

i always put my action as low as possible without buzzing. im so used to slinky guitars tuned to B and C, i feel restricted with high action.

normally i use d adarrio 9s for standard and drop D tuning and 10s or 11s for standard D or C# tunings.

i used d'addarios everytime i would change strings... it's the first time i give slinkys a shot
i liked the stock strings that came with my vm strat too, they held up pretty well they were fender 250l nickel wound 9's... btw my guitars sound is a little more trebly for some reason i can't recognise what i play in the 6th string if i do a riff there is the problem the high action or the strings?

Yes. Kind of but no, not really. You just prefer something more normal.

You quickly adjusted to the higher action but you were slow to readjust back to the lower action. High and low action both have their pros and cons and going to extremes in both directions are always mistakes. As guitarists we sometimes tend to think like hotrodders. We seem to have the mentality that if some is good then more must be better. Moderation is the key. I'd be willling to bet that the action you played wasn't all that extrememly high, just slightly higher than you were used to and it was likely well within standard spec. The reason you adjusted to it quickly is because it was closer to normal. N'est pas?

I had spagetti once. There, I've said it. It was good spagetti. It made me wonder if fat spagetti is better than thin spagetti.

It all depends on how fat the spaghetti was. I like fat spaghetti, that doesn't make me a bad person. Everyone is entitled to choose their spaghetti!

I like my action quite high. Comes from the days of real strings (wound third) and tone.
As I'm not a twiddler, I don't find the need for a low action.
I actually don't see why there is a need for a low action (weak fingers?).
My EPI Les Paul has a low action, but I don't feel any advantage over my high action guitars.
