list price and the actual street price are two different things. No one pays list price and the list price absolutely does not affect resale price. Also I was not being anal, just informing you that there is a difference between " A Fender site" and "The Fender Site", you didn't seem to know the difference, just as you obviously don't know the difference between List and MAP/street prices

This tedium is killing me! :| I know that the retail price is not the same as a street price. I simply didn't realize there was such a vast diff between the two. I was asking for an explanation on that difference and not a grammar lesson. THIS Fender website, in the products section, lists a brand new Highway 1 (and I never indicated that it wasn't brand new) at $1,000.

My bad for trying to educate you. Next time you come seeking answers you should really check the snarky attitude at the door. Also don't look at THE Fender website if you want an idea of price. Check the prices on Fender Authorized dealers such as Musician's Friend, Guitar Center, Wildwood guitars etc and then compare the new prices to the recently complete auctions on Ebay. That will get you an idea of what your gear is worth used.

I'm beginning to think the OP paid close to list for his new guitar. Why else would he be so hung up on list price and so clueless as to everything else.

$500 for a nice used Hwy 1, that sounds right to me.

There are many forums discussing Fender guitars. Then again, I dont see what the big deal is with semantic, do we really want to scare new people away?

True, but there is only one official site run by FMIC, and that is this one. Also its not about running new people off. Most people when they are wrong admit it and move on, they don't keep insisting they are right unless they are a D-bag

I just think it is a simple misunderstanding to begin with. So easy to just ignore or walk away. Lots of people on edge here lately, we're all only trying to make music.

Perhaps it's a jerk who stepped on his dick with his very first post by violating the forum's rules, then refused to humbly issue a mea culpa and graciously move on.

Gnome saing, mon?

OMG not again...

Who cares- the poor chap just wanted some information and as usual the thread has turned to BS- usually by the same abrasive people with no ettiquette getting a little retentitive... again.

..Seriously.

Before you go getting all PC and blameing everyone else for mistreating the "poor" OP, I suggest you read his 4th post in this thread and his latest just above. No one else has called the OP names, but he feels it is fine to call others names. It's the OP that needs to learn some forum ettiquette, not the other posters here. And as far as scaring new people off, well in this case I don't care if the OP stays or not.

To be honest, I am directing this at you. I have seen a few threads where you start on people, and sometimes is when someone posts on the forums for the first time. There is a pattern, Im asking you to tone down the abrasiveness. Seriously, it's ugly and people just loose respect.

The reason why his 4th post was the way it was, it because people were getting down on his post- where he just wanted information. No need to get on the wording of "This" or "A" fender website. He didnt say --> http://www.fender.com we are on now either. Nor http://www.fender.com.au or http://www.fender.co.uk & www.fender.co.nz either. Truth is there is more than one fender site- but thats besides the point. If we just gave him the info he so desired from us without debate on the wording of his original post- maybe he would stick around & enjoy the forums- like forum user limerot where you scared him off too

You might not care if he doesn't post, but others might- I do :D
Treat people with a bit of kindness here, dont get so retentive and loosen up. It's only a forum & we're all here for a good time

I'm not going to reply to you, because I just can't be bothered getting into a useless nitpicky debate- I have better things to do today. If you reply, you are wasting your time.

Report to Brad if you don't like my post

I've got bad news for you. Never used the Fender SRP. That's what Fender wants dealers to sell their guitars brand new. Even if you were to sell that guitar brand new in a store you might not get more than $750 for it.

I bought mine brand new in '07 for about $500. I also got a small deal. The truth is you're not going to get more than about $500 for it. Think about it. You are selling a used guitar. No one's going to pay full price for a used guitar. Good luck.

ok guys, lets keep it cool here.
i dont have a dog in this fight either way.
a used HW1 here on the eastcoast in nice shape CAN bring between $500-$550.
ive seen them as low as $400 (and bought them). lets keep it cool here. we/i just got out of a thread that was pretty heated myself. seams like there are little fires starting up here and there all over the forum these last 2 weeks. i suggest we chill before the powers that be have to step in. everything that can be said to the OP about his original post has been said. i suggest we drop it from here and move forward to other posts.

It's all market driven. Yes, there are newbies who buy on craigslist without researching, but looking at Guitar Center's website for all of 5 minutes, they have a couple used hwy 1 strats for between $550 and $590. And we all know that you can deal on a guitar there. They sell new for $729 and if you get a player's card, or buy during a sale (like this weekend) that's 15% off, so brand new for $619.

If I were in the market for a hwy 1 and he were asking....say $600, I might point that out to him. I suspect he paid list. Live and learn.

Fender cranked out a lot of these, so there are a LOT of Highway ones floating around for sale, which doesn't help the resale value.
