Hi Guys,

I have just purchased a Fender Stratocaster in sunburst that has the american series tremolo. I took the little sticker off that covers the tremolo arm hole and to my surprise a spring fell out....i have slid it back into the hole but am wondering if i have done something wrong?? or is that how its supposed to be?

Also my tremolo arm is very stiff on turning (ooerr) will a little grease help the problem? Its a 2004 model and had never had a tremolo arm in it, so maybe its a little seized.

Any thoughts would be great

That didn't happen to me. I know that the store that I buy my guitars from allow me one free set up with the purchase of the guitar. I would see if yours does the same. If it does, let them set it up and tell them at the time that the spring came out and that your finding the arm a bit tight. I wouldn't put grease in a new bridge, but that is just me.

You may have cross threaded the tremola by not screwing it in straight, I would, unscrew it if you have it screwed in and look it over looking for metal filings that were caused by cross threading your arm, if you find some stop and bringing it in to you local guitar dealer, to see whats going on, I wouldn't suggest using grease.

That spring is a spacer for the tremelo arm, I know that because my salesman called Fender and he asked that that same question. Nothing is wrong, just put it back in the hole and keep the hole covered so it don`t fall out and gets lost when the tremelo arm is not in.

Right - it's normal for the spring to fall out... that's why Fender puts the little round sticker there.

All my strats with the non-vintage style saddles still have the sticker attached. I never use the trem bar. I just rock the bridge with the palm of my right hand for tremolo.
