Well, I survived the King of Blues competition! Of course I did not make it out of the first round but I knew that going in. Out of ten people, I went last which made the suspense and stress just that much worse. Then...they called my name.....OH LORDY LORDY! I was scared out of my mind. My fingers took over my body and my mind. I do not remember a thing. I had practiced for weeks but then they called my name, and just like that, weeks of practice......out the window. I did enjoy myself looking back on it in the video now. I could have been a lot slower and just took my time but the fear made me go a million miles an hour. I felt good because at the end they called me Kevin "Slowhand" Lyons...I'll take that any day! ......thanks for all the encouragement gents...it was well worth it...see you there next year!!! The video is below....enjoy!

Congratulations on getting up there. I play in our church band and have played in bands on stage many times over the years, but getting up there all by yourself more or less "naked" is quite the accomplishment. Sounded good to me.

Congrats! Even though you didn't make it through this time, getting the courage to step out like that is a great accomplishment. :D I was more or less terrified my first time around. Since then I've probably played a couple of hundred gigs, so it's gotten a lot better. But even so, I haven't really gotten totally used to it.

Awesome light show by the way, I wish all Guitar Centers did that!

They went all out with the laser lights and announcing all the artists. It was a very professional atmosphere which freaked me out even more. They were very supportive and very professional about it all which made it that much more special! Thanks Slinger...now if I can do this all of the time I would be in Heaven. Time to start a band.....

Oh man.....you were last to go on! I can certainly understand the stress. I was the first in my group and once it was over, I could watch the others with relief. I walked out of it knowing that I'll need to step up my game for next year. I'm proud to have earned the t-shirt anyways....which is all I expected to get out of it. We had no lights or even a camera. I'm also in a worship band and do a ton of intros and leads in front of 500+ people all the time, but all by myself in front of the table of judges and onlookers was a completely different thing. I told my wife afterwards that I'm waaaaay better of a guitarist when I'm sitting with headphones playing to a backing track on my laptop than up there on stage.

Props to you, man. It takes some kahonies to get up there.

Nice going. Takes guts to be up there all by yourself.

Now because of this experience I have started a band called T.R.A.U.M.A. - The Realm All Universal Minds Achieve. The links are below. Come support us. We hit the studio on the 30th of this month. Wish us luck and thanks to everyone here in the Fender forums for your support. I truly would not have had to courage to do so otherwise...next stop Fender endorsement...LOL. When we get to the top, The Forum will be known......as where the legends started out....Now that is a VH1 behind the music special. Here we go...........
