I posted this info in the "pictures of your Strat" thread, but thought I'd ask in a new thread if anyone knows anything about this guitar, similar copies (if there are others) or the 25 Fender Custom Shop Jaguar Strats made for Jaguar Cars in 2000.

I was attractedto this one by the Jaguar Cars motif because I collect older Jaguars and was taken with the decoration. I then learned about the 25 Custom Shop Jaguar Stratocaster models built in 2000 when I found the web site http://www.nevadamusic.co.uk/Guitars/El ... p5744.aspx where one is currently offered for sale and I found mention of them on the Strat Collector site as well.

This guitar was presented as "a project guitar that was put together with parts and turned out really cool", and not as a Custom Shop model which it definitely is not. On the front of the headstock it reads Fender (TM) Stratocaster with no other numbers or words, and on the back of the headstock it reads ORIGINAL Contour Body 05 1520688.

There are more pics of my guitar posted at http://s237.photobucket.com/albums/ff26 ... d612e2.pbw if you are interested.

Thanks for the comment. The gold pickups do look good, but there's a lot of hum at some settings so I just bought a set of vintage noisless pups to try; white ones but at least they have gold lettering.

If it was one of the real ones it would be; even the back of the neck was BRG on those. alainlafrance has an original and has some pics on webshots http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/album/124424473CuoGgL

I have a Fender body on the way that I bought on eBay that I'll try painting with a harlequin paint kit, the kind that changes color as you change vewing angle. I think the harlequin base color is a deep green-blue, but I'll find out. If it comes out OK, I'll put the Jaguar neck on that body with the noisless pups. I Don't plan to do the back of the neck though; I am not trying to fool anyone into thinking mine is the real item - I just want to improve the sound with a better body and electrics.

Naturally, if only 25 were produced, this is a very special guitar - At 14,995 pounds, it ought to be! Seems a bit steep to me but then again, I suppose it's difficult to put a price on such a limited run. Before I shelled out that kinda dough, I'd be doing a ton of research with other collectors and dealers - call Huber and Breeze in MI - they deal in such items on a regular basis.

Hi Phil
Must have been a lot of work but it's a very fine result
I got your mail and I'll send you more photos.
I ain't sure any of these very few (5 to the public) ever surfaced in the USA even @ H&B..
I know the location of 4 of them, none in the USA. save eventually for the one owned by Paul Rodgers.

Great to hear from you, and I look forward to more photos. I posted to the Jag-Lovers site to ask if anyone there had seen a Jaguar Strat in a dealer showroom (the site is international), but did not get any affirmative replies; perhaps the 20 all ended up in managements trophy cases.

Yes, someone spent some time on my guitar's neck and did a pretty good job; although the leapers look a little rat-like compared to the official leaper logo, the Jaguar name and the growler on the headstock are very nicely done. And it seems to play pretty well too, at least to my inexperienced feel.

I bought a copy of the Fender Custom Shop Gallery book, and while it did not have the Jaguar Strat among its pages, it did have several of your guitars pictured; I am still blown away by your great collection.

Thanks to all who commented on my "Jaguar" stratocaster. I got some enlightening but disappointing news from folks on the FDP forum that the guitar I purchased is not a "Project guitar that was put together with parts and turned out really cool", but a counterfeit made by a Chinese company in Beijing. What a bummer. :(
It still looks nice and it plays OK as far as I can determine with my limited experience and it reacts well to the normal Stratocaster setup, but it is all Chinese and Korean parts. I've emailed the seller ( the completed auction is still up on eBay as item 290193247944 ) who might not have known what he was selling, but as a seller of a number of other guitars he should have had an idea. Not sure what I woll do about this as I've read that not only selling these but posessing one may be illegal because of the copyright infringement.

Here's an article on these Chinese fakes
http://www.vintagerock.com/fakeguitars.aspx

And here's a link to the exact model this guy sold me
http://www.paylessguitars.com/product_detail.asp?Pid=991

I see that in two of their picture the Chinese company seems to have figured out that the pickguard on a new Fender strat has 11 mounting screws and not 10 like the one I bought. Perhaps I have a "valuable" Chinese prototype? NOT! It probably depends on which China-person was making their "custom shop" models that day.

Be careful out there and don't fall for a scam like I did.
