Snowy, how about them Diago cases eh?

Very very pleased with mine. Paid £35 for a massive, solid pedal case, with a Dimarzio tuner and power supply.

Wookie, their ex-main UK distributor is in Tamworth. Not a million miles from where I live. On the doorstep of where I work.
Lots of bargains floating around there at the time.

Okay, I've seen what happens when I use terms like "tone wood" or "resonance", so lets see what happens when I mention "true bypass" Anybody interested in a true bypass mod for their Boss or Ibanez pedals? How 'bout that Vox Wah Wah? I'm happy to share.

I build my own fuzz pedals. They are true bypass. It's not always a good thing. Sometimes you need a little line help when joining a lot of pedals together. Also if you're using a wah before a fuzz. Then a constant circuit routed pedal can work wonders.
A really good player who works in a local shop (I was hawking the pedals around) once remarked "that true bypass sounds sweet". All I could think was, how can you hear it? All it is, is the absence of coloration of the sound.
It's nice but in no way a necessity. Premier effects guru (and the only one I spent over £100 on a effect and didn't feel like I was ripped off), Carl Martin, refuses to put true bypass on any of his effects. Good enough for Gilmour, good enough for me.

Hi ashtone, the Vox wah in my board pic is modded for true-bypass.

From my experience, True-Bypass is OK if you just have a couple of pedals, as in my board pic above. But if you keep adding more pedals, even TB pedals, your signal will suffer and you should consider a quality buffer.

In my board pic above my signal is only passing through the tuner and the Wah (both TB), before hitting the Cream Tone which is always "on" and provides a nice strong Low Z signal, so essentially from that point on, my other pedal and guitar cable to the amp are close to "invisible".

That's been my take on it, and what my ears tell me, but I could be wrong.

I agree, a buffer is a good thing. And true bypass is not always needed. But if you have an old style Wah, it is a tone-sucking device without true bypass.
As for your current set-up, you can decide for yourself, and here's the "reference test": All you have to do is play your rig for a while with all pedals bypassed, straight through the board with everything in the effects chain in bypass mode. Then unplug the guitar cable and plug your guitar straight into the amp. If it sounds the same, then great; you don't need it. But if you hear improved fidelity and/or a noticable volume boost by plugging straight into the amp, thereby bypassing your effects chain completely, then it may behoove you to check it out, along with the cables you are using. Some cables are made with less capacitance/inductance than others, and are more transparent. I like George L's because they are transparent, inexpensive and the plugs are compact.
I do not think true bypass it is the be-all and end-all, but it is a benefit if you can hear the difference between guitar-effects-amp and guitar-amp, and then figure out by a process of elimination where the problem lies, and address that device.

After my previous forum experience with an argumentative subject, I will now state that I am done with this thread. I will only respond to requests for the originally offered information on how to do this mod to a pedal. I will not debate the pros or cons of the true bypass argument. I am not advocating any point of view, just offering information to interested parties.

I'm surprised there are so few pics in this thread I thought it would be a lot more active on that front.

On the subject of Wah mods, back in January I decided to pull out my old Vox847 Wah and do some work on it. I replaced the switch with a 3PDT and wired it for true bypass as detailed on the Fulltone website. Then I pulled the PCB and did the following mods (All resistor changes):

Volume Mod to restore unity gain with the true bypass.
Vocal Mod.
Gain and Bass mod.
Midrange mod.

For reference I used the following site, it is well detailed and all the mods listed above did in fact enhance the pedal as described: (see DIY Resources section).
http://www.wah-wah.co.uk/

After these changes the pedal is definitely a much improved Wah to use, it sounds MUCH nicer and more vocal like when it's on and now there's no "tone suck" when switched off.

So i finally got all the pedals in :D
I decided to make a cardboard mock-up of what im going to arrange them into (to figure out the cables, spacing, etc.), and after that, I figured why not take a picture of it for up here... I hope to have the real board done in a week or so! :D

Yep, have read Pete's article multiple times. However, if you have a buffered pedal in front, you're fine. The Boss TU2 has a buffer, and seems to work. Moreover, my signal is a lot cleaner and less tone suck with true bypass pedals and loops to take noisy pedals out of the signal path completely than before.

Pete's argument makes sense when you're building $1000+ pedalboards that are completely custom; for the average guitar player, true bypass, a quality power supply like the Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2 and George L cables can make the difference between a usable pedalboard and sonic mud.
