Check it out. Questions and comments are welcomed. I'd like to know what people think. Professional gigging guitarists, weekend warriors, and hobbyists, all input is appreciated. I am a metal fabricator. This pedalboard was made from a sheet of 16 ga.(.060") polished stainless steel, cut out on a CNC laser, bent on a brake press, and tig welded. It also has a bottom. I've made them from aluminum, cold rolled steel which I then painted, and even made one from PVC plastic. The one pictured here is my personal one.

Then I made an extension for the wah pedal. I've made several for friends and people I gig with occasionally.

Here's the final product with the velcro and rubber grommets in the holes. Image

That is awesome!!!! How do you transport it? I would consider adding two handles. Maybe bent steel bars in the shape of [.

Also I've been looking at the fulldrive 2 and the GT500. Your thoughts and if you had to pick between the two, which one and why? Not to steal your thread, but it's just perfect timing.

Mighty sweet, Hollis!

What's the weight?

Also, what would it weigh if fabricated from sheet aluminum?

RAWK ON!

No problem djwhit. The Fulldrive is an awesome overdrive, one of the very best. It is my favorite. The GT-500 has a great distortion for humbuckers, I would describe it as grind. But it doesn't sound good with the distortion at less than 75% and it sounds horrible with single coils. So, for all the bells and whistles this thing has, for me it's a one trick pony. Now the boost side of the GT-500 is a whole different beast. It is wonderful for fattening up single coils with it's bass and treble knobs and it's really great for pushing my DRRI into earlier break up. With humbuckers it can get a splatty :) kind of break up. Both these pedals certainly have their uses, but for me the Fulldrive is where it's at. Really though, I'd rather have a separate clean boost and maybe a Rothwell Hellbender or other type of Marshall-esque distortion and get rid of the GT-500. It certainly looks cool though with that candy red powder coat. The Fulldrive has an equally impressive coat.

Arjay, the aluminum is substantially lighter, although one may sacrifice the extreme ruggedness of stainless steel. I think I'll do another prototype and see. I have to make another tomorrow for a local guy here in Memphis.

Nevin, you're right. It certainly is overkill!! A piece of plywood and velcro will work, but I'm in the metal fab business, so it was only natural for me to go this route. It does need handles. I did put handles and a lid on one once, but I thought it made it too heavy. With all the pedals and power supply and cables inside, it can be cumbersome if it isn't housed in a bag or case.

The idea is to have a two-tier pedalboard design for the professional gigging musician that will last forever and take all the abuse of the road, clubs, etc. (and look pretty cool too) And, have you seen how much those cheap pieces of crap they sell for pedalboards cost!?

Thanks Hollis, I was leaning toward the Fulldrive and I think you've sold me on it. Now I just have to play with one for awhile to be sure.

Again, great work on the pedal board. You could easily sell those on ebay or CL. Looks 100 times better the Chinese crap some of these companies are pushing. Not that there is anything wrong with the Chinese.

You could also cut out your name on the front for the audience to see (maybe add a colored light in there too). That would be cool! :D

Hi Hollis Prince: I think it's completely flippin' magnificent! Wow - kudos to you! Tres cool. 8)

Thank you also for your very clear photos. Now, what I bet many of us would love to see is pictures of the manufacturing process. CNC laser cutting, a break press, tig welding? We're salivating down our shirt fronts waiting to see that stuff! Blow your own trumpet a little and show us some more, please!

Respect - C

That's one of the best looking pedal boards I've ever seen! Great job!

Since everyone else asked, did you weigh it pre-pedal?

...And everyone is probably wondering, how much would you charge to make one for a good friend from the Forum?

Thanks for all the kind responses guys! I have a couple of prototypes that didn't make it, so I'll weigh a couple of them and see how heavy they are. Aluminum might be the way to go if it's strong enough.
Ceri, while I can't approach the coolness of one of your build threads, I'll bring my camera to work on Monday and capture some of what we do and some of the fantastic machines we have. Actually, we just got in a new 5000 watt Trumpf Laser. I'll get some pics of this beast too. The speed and precision is phenomenal. Thanks again for your interest and input!
And I'll find out how much it costs me to build one of these guys too. Should be under $200 USD

Coincedentally, I just received today a link to a (admittedly awful tabloid) article about Trumpf's attempts to revolutionise work contracts. Basically they let you decide how many hours you want to work, and how much holiday you want, and these parameters are flexible within certain measures. It allows for "aspiring homeowners" and "people caring for sick relatives" alike to accommodate different phases in life. Apparently the first company doing that in a large scale. Kind of interesting concept. Here's the link, I'm sure a web search will provide more though.

Have fun with your new Laser! 8)
