Thanks for your empathy. Of course, you're right about the priorities, but I do remember the $700.00 cake.

How come a Les Paul with p90s doesn't sound exactly like a Strat with p90s when running through the same rig with the same player?

(reaching for the popcorn ...)

Assuming it is a gold top or a custom & as Nik pointed out, you will find the scale length will affect the tension on the strings and the way they vibrate in the magnetic field of the pickups.. Ill also add that the wiring of a les paul and it's inner electricals are different to a strat.. for example, the rating of the tone pots in a les paul are 300k rather than 350-400k in a strat- then there are the volume pots, capacitors & the overall circuit Image

Blertles, that makes total sense but I do prefer my 'headstock anomaly' explanation............

...and I was also going to mention the angle of the strap buttons and the type of screws used to fix the pickups in the body aswell.. but I'll save that for another rainy day  :D

I have a epiphone and a superstrat. mostly play post grunge or alternative metal music...
when i play powerchord((This is sometimes called a "fourth chord", but usually the second note is taken as the root, although it's not the lowest one.)) regardless of which guitar i use, the C# powerchord (standard E tuning, 6 string= 4fret,5 string=4fret, 4string= 6fret) sound is louder than Bb powerchord (standard E tuning, 6 string=1fret,5 string=1 fret,4 string= 3 fret) sound

and when most folks drop down tune their guitar to C# ,it sounds more loud and punch. but when most folks drop down tune their guitar to Bb, it sounds softer and muddy..
most people say the culprit is string gauge and intonation etc...I also agree to that ...

but when i don't plug my guitar into amp and just play raw string signal without amp , C# still sound more louder than Bb..
I assume that the cause is the guitar body's wood resonant frequency, which was set to C# by its density and woodtype...
i listened C# and Bb powerchords carefully, C# vibrate the guitar body but Bb doesn't vibrate the guitar body.
I learned building a recording studio professonally, all material has it's own resonant frequency, Basstrap is also using this resonant frequency theory...

so i somewhat agree to Ashtones's theory..
but i don't know a lot about guitar and acoustics still...so if someone correct me, I will appreciate it..

why don't you try to play C# powerchord and Bb powerchord, right now?
you might get the same result with me...

p.s I like to drop down tune my guitar to Bb, but I have never heard punching clear Bb guitar sound on earth.. always C# or D has punching clear sound

I am somewhat disappointed in this thread, here it is on the 5th page and no-one has mentioned "that" food product that seems to be popular with Her Majesty's subjects.

Well we had a really interesting thread on one of 'em....more popular with the 'down unders'. Which 'that' struck you as being overlooked?

Hi oneal: "that" one? Which one were you thinking of? This?

Just you wait till you find out what the heck that is. You thought Marmite was too much...?

Ooo - I suspect I just gave this thread a whole new lease of life. See you in another 12 pages.

Cheers - C

PS: By the way, contrary to popular believe Her Maj doesn't have subjects. That may be a little bit of mythology from your past, I suspect...

That product is not unique to her Maj's taxpayers, though it might take several different forms on this side of the pond.

I like scratchings. Nothing wrong with a bit of crispy pig fat, put's hairs on your chest.

And your back, and your palms too.

Man, I have been away from the Forum for a while due to travel. Was on the other side of the pond for a few weeks. Waved at Mr. C, Niki and Andy and others, from the plane window, but no one saw me. So now I am cruising through the Forum and see this thread the "tone wood" debate again. Oh no! But to y surprise I find Mr. C bring up these dreadful porkers. When I was a kid my favorite snack was these:

Now the thought of them is disgusting. My dad used to sit up on Saturday evenings while watching boxing on the tele and would eat pickled pig's feet. Not what is really disgusting. I would take Marmite any day!
