Well I can say I'm definately an opinionated and a poo poo naysayer  8) :D  I can't remember being nasty enough to be subject to name calling- 'Poser' however- nor have I suggested I knew more than I do. I will say what I know, I also know what I say.. nevermind, water off a ducks back here mate. If I caused you distress, I do apologise however but When it comes to topics like these, it's all on. Just like the MIM vs, MIA debate. This is just an example of someone questioning another's opinion and experience because there are so many people who launch into opinions that people just cant back-up (nitro vs urethane, MIM vs. MIA etc...) Obviously you did not like what I had to say when I expressed mine, and I am very sorry about this. You can't express your opinion based as a fact however, which tends to be a launcher for argument for those who oppose your opinion.

Im just curious however-

Quote:
Take it or leave it, but if you haven't actually built enough guitars to know what you are talking about, you're just an on-line poser spouting rhetoric you've hocked from someone else who actually took the long way 'round.

-not entirely sure what you mean here, perhaps you may like to elaborate. The person whom you refer to actually carves/builds stringed instruments for a living- no electrics, has done for as long as you have, if not longer as he is older than you are. Much like his father, and grandfather, and great grandfather. That type of knowlege passed down- I didn't dare question. Thats a true luthier. There is no long way round when it comes to stringed instrument making. It's a painstaking art/craft & I give full respect to anyone who has mastered it.

Peace.

 I refuse to comment further on the grounds that it will incriminate me.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Having stayed out this long I'd like to ask a question. Just to stir the pot a little.

How come a Les Paul with p90s doesn't sound exactly like a Strat with p90s when running through the same rig with the same player?

Ashtone,

WARNING: if your looking for a calm rational discussion on this topic on this fourm you might want to reconsider. It would be nice but..........

Sincerely,
OL

you just might be suprised to find how many well qualified craftsmen there may be on this forum. The harmonic resonance of wood of any kind is deturmaned by the density and moistuer content. it is not always a mater of species but always a mater of dencity. and no two pieces of wood are the same. and will not produce identical vibrosonic tone. and no one piece of wood is constant in its abilityto produce the sound that you are looking for. if a piece of wood never changed you would never need to retune a guitar or any other stringed instrument constructed out of wood. :)

I soooooo love throwing a monkey into these types of wrenches!

Ahhhhh  Where do you get bodies like that? How do they sound compaired to regular wood ones?
On a side note, a clear jaguar would be epic!!!

One thing that I have to say on this whole string, and many others like it, I think that it is a sad symptom of the world we live in: We are all polarized these days. (at least a great majority of us) People seem (to me) to be extremely on one side or the other of issues, such as wars in other countries, politics (especially in Canada nowadays), abortion, and apparently, tonewood... The worst is our legal system: when you boil it down, its merely two sides arguing the farthest extremes of an issue, in the hope that the happy medium is found in between these extremes and "justice" is served. Basically , any calm or moderate person it at a lose in these situations, they are not extreme enough people.
This arguement is the same... sadly people feel compelled to argue passionately for their opinion. Sometimes i think more time on forums such as these should be spent *reading* the information supplied by others, not refuting it.

Hi Sklivas: in as careful a post as I could construct I had hoped that I'd indicated that some of us are not at either extreme in a "tonewood is either vital or makes no difference at all" debate. Amongst many others here I'm at neither end of that polarity.

For most of us it is a question of degree, that's all.

Cheers - C

I know for a fact that that is caused by a magnetic anomoly in the shape differences of the headstocks of said guitars.................

Awesome!!
There you have it kiddies!

No wonder Leo only patented his headstock designs and not his body shapes. The headstock is EVERYTHING!!
