Hey guys,

I purchased a brand new American standard about a month ago. At that time I ended up with my neck relief at .010 with about 5/64 of action.

Today 4 weeks later, I rechecked the measurements and the guitar settled because the neck relief is now very little  I can't even get a measurement because my smallest feeler .006 doesn't fit :? I'm guessing it's probably at .003-.004. The action followed slightly and went down to 4.5/64.

I actually like it this way. The guitar feels awesome! :D

My question... Is having such little neck relief a problem in anyway that maybe I'm not seeing. The guitar doesn't seem to buzz so far but normally what frets would buzz if neck relief is "too low"? What should I look for that would indicate a too low neck relief?

Also, if there is no problems does this mean the frets are levelled exceptionally accurate on this Strat?

Thanks guys

I wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, but I'm not an expert on just how exactly neck relief can affect your instrument other than making sure you are properly set up action wise. I'm thinking if there is no buzzing and everyting feels great on the guitar, just roll with it.

Just make sure the intonation is correct. If the intonation is good, there is no buzzing, and you are able to bend notes and the note rings true on every string and fret without a problem....you're good. If I'm mistaken please someone slap me in the face. I would take a second opinion on this one

If it plays right, it is right! There is nothing to worry about other than the weather, then it could change again.

Reinforcing your point, all those pre-ordained measurements are a primary guide, surely not to be construed as 'in stone'. Further, every guitar even of the same brand and model are different and should be set up on their own merits. I know when my guitar is right for me and honestly don't know (nor care to know) any of those pre-ordained measurements. Every guitar I've ever played which has been religiously set up to them are far from performing to their potential.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

If your not getting fret buzz and your loving the action then dont fool with it. Nothing wrong with little to no bow if no buzz. Your lucky
