Since when did the Time Machine Series guitars start featuring modern fretboard radii and 6105 frets?? I was checking out the specs on the new Time Machine '58 Strat and noticed these modern refinements. I thought the purpose of the Time Machine Series was to offer instruments as true to vintage specs as possible??

It's probably not a big deal to most people. Most players would probably like the modern radius and taller frets but to me it sort of hurts the credibility of the Time Machine series. I like the idea of recreating the vintage instruments to the best of the Custom Shop's ability. If they start using modern radii and frets, then the American Vintage series would be a more vintage correct option.

You might want to post this in the "Ask Mike Eldred" section of the forum; Mike is the Marketing Director for the Custom Shop. Here's the link:

I suspect that the Time Machine series has been repurposed from 100% accurate vintage recreations to vintage-style Fenders with the most popular features. It seems like a lot of the really large Fender dealers had already been special ordering their CS Time Machine guitars with 9.5" radius and 6105 frets so Fender decided to go in this direction.

Of course I will defer 100% to Mr. Eldred's explaination.

The fretboards on the new Time Machine Strats remind me of the USS Nimitz's flight deck. With speed-bumps!
