The Sambora Strat comes with a switch to change from passive to boost. I can't imagine they would build a guitar without it.

According to Tom Wheeler, when Fender was designing the Clapton Strat, they included a switch to bypass the active preamp. Clapton rejected that feature so every Clapton Strat requires a battery for operation. No battery, no sound.

The tremolo cavity has a special rout for the battery. You'll need to remove the tremolo backplate first before every battery change.
Some other active Fender guitars feature a special compartement for easier access.
