HaHaHa!! That reminds me of my good friend Steve, who used to come out and see my band in the '90's. One Christmas, he asked me what I wanted, and I said (jokingly) "a '54 Fender Stratocaster". Just before Christmas, I had a big box waiting at the club from Steve. It was a fender, but not the kind I was thinking of. It was a fender for my Honda Civic, which had a dent. He said "I couldn't afford the Stratocaster part, but I got you the fender part". Pretty funny, and practical too.

I've had three Civics, first one was an '85 S, then an '87 Si, which was the "fender" car, followed by a '91 Si. I did a lot of work on them, mostly suspension. I've moved on to an Accord Wagon, a '94. I've had two of those, both identical. First one was stolen and totalled, and I am happily driving the second one. Gotta say, I've been driving since 1969, and all of these Hondas are the most reliable cars I've driven. The only time I had a problem was when the '91 Si broke a timing belt, but that was my fault. My first '94 Accord Wagon had 297K on the clock when it was swiped. The thing that upset me the most was that I didn't get to see it roll over to 300K.

I'm the proud owner of a Candy Green Clapton Strat. I had to wait an extra month to get it. Fender discontinued the color for the EC Strat some time this year.

When my son moved to NYC in 1990, after attending Grove School of Music in L.A., I gave him a Stratocaster I put together using a Candy Green Clapton body and a MIJ rosewood neck. It had Duncan vintage strat pickups, and I had removed the gain circuit. I think it had a three-layer pickgaurd. Anyway, after he was there about a year, he got mugged at 9:30 in the morning, losing the guitar, a drum machine and some other stuff. He had a second-degree black belt in tai-kwondo, and was once the Colorado State Champion in his age group. But he said four guys jumped him, and held a knife to his throat, so he wisely chose to capitulate. I still have the Clapton neck and gain circuit, and, most importantly, my son Jon.
