i've been playing guitar since 98, and i just now bought my first strat... i know it's a squier, but still. it was 50 bucks. its also a classic vibe 60s which cost about $350.

i got it from my friend for 50 bucks brand new with the plastic still on the pickguard. i ordered some real fender pickups off ebay for 35 bucks and a pickguard to make it a fat strat. i'm also currently painting the body white. after setting up the action and neck, i'm really impressed with the playability. i mean it doesnt compare to a mexican or american strat, but not bad. i was going to just flip it, but now i'm keeping it.

the fender singles i got sound good, but the bucker was too glassy and harsh. so i got a duncan custom custom and love it. nice and warm.

ive always loved white strats with brown pickguards and rosewood fretboards. never cared for burst finish unless its over figured wood.

To each his own, I guess.... I'm another one whose jeleous of your sunburst and crying (not really) that you're going to paint over it. Why not wait it out and find a white mim and sell this to get it. I know from doing a refinish of a guitar that it is a TON of work and you'll likely spend another $50 on the finish.....when you go to sell it, it'll be worth less with the paint.

Squiers, when well setup do play quite well (I had a black fat strat and now have a blue one from Squier). You're addressing the weak point in the pickups.

Hi rumblebox,

Sweet looking guitar, and killer deal! I agree that it will be a lot of work to refinish the body, buying a white one would be easier, but either way I agree that something like Olympic White would definitely look fantastic with the rosewood board and tortoise PG. Congrats on the excellent purchase. :)

after spraying the base coat, i noticed the screw holes had caused some serious warping around them. so i block sanded it, and im redoing the finish today. we'll see how it turns out.

my pickups and pickguard came in. i accidentally ordered a red pickguard instead of brown. i'm not sure i like it enough to keep vs spending 10 more bucks to get the right one.

You got a good deal on that guitar. Setup correctly it will be a fine playing guitar. As far as the color, I'd leave it alone but it's yours so do what you want. Congratulations and welcome to the forums!!
