Well if the 30th Anniversary's are anything like the original golds, they are dead quiet and have a nice bell like tone.

I have them in my EC Model and they don't get mushy when you push them hard with either devices or in the EC Model's case a pre-amp boost. You can get a nice quack with them and they work very well with a Wah Wah pedal.

FWIW

T2stratman I've been reading that many think that they should be adjusted high to the string. Is that what you also find.

Ditto on the previous evaluations. The pickups do not cause 'drag' so you can set them where ever your string action permits. Yes, tone can be influenced by the position of the pickup. It's your ball.

IMHO that's a pretty broad palate. The GLS is a pickup whose design was specific for the first Strat Plus with the intention of capturing a vintage Strat tone and eliminating 60 cycle hum. Other than the Plus series, both Strat and later Tele's,the only other guitars they we fitted to were the Clapton and the Burton, with probably the exception of the original Sam Ash FSR '48th Street Strat" which had neck and bridge Dual Reds.

I onced owned an old Fernandes Strat fitted with GLS's that worked well passively and also when run through a Proco Rat. As well, at one time, a '93 Clapton with GLS's and a '97 American Standard with the EMG DG-20 electronics, I can tell you for sure that these were two different breeds of cat and, side by side, at the same amp settings, had two distinctly different voices, pretty much reflective of what their principal endorsers applied them to. Once that 25db midboost on the Clapton was cranked, there was no contest, but it did not have the delicacy of tonal colorations possible with the DG-20.

For me tone would be more priority than output in regard to pickup height.
