What are some crafty stratocaster mods that will make my guitar have someone say "where the hell did you get that ?!" (in a good way). Im really looking for a crazy pickup configuration as well as pickups via those configurations. Please list configs. with suggested pickups and share pictures of your modified instruments.

well, as far as configurations go...

SSS
SHS
HSS
SSH
HSH
HHH
SHH
HHS

and you could play around with mini humbuckers, P90s, etc. in those configs I suppose....

Hehehe!

I reckon I've done a few mods that fit your criteria. One in particular has some seriously crazy wiring. Its the most "ambitious" mod I've done... so far.

The Big Hairy Tone-caster

Wired up like so..

In the real world the above looks a bit like this...

...Which give you the following pickup combinations...

All of the above has the added option of an on-board Mid-Boost, which is nice. The great thing about this wiring scheme is that if you don't touch the any of the S-1's you have the standard Strat five way switching we all know and love.

Everybody needs the other 27 different combos and a Mid-boost, right?

There's also a more wiring mods in some quality threads all listed in the The Nutter's Build Thread Listing. Have a peek at those and let us know what you think.

Enjoy!

Andy

Ha! :D

Is that a trick question? I had to do quite a lot of routing...

The only extra cavity I made was for the 9v battery....

...Other than that, the wiring assembly should fit in a standard Strat control cavity. I'm quietly smug about that. Took me a while to figure it out! :D

Enjoy!

So with that in mind, I need a new guitar body or can I put in a different pickup mod with the standard 3 single coil cavities ?? I know I'll need a new fitting pickguard

Yep, you could have something very similar with three single coils. Trying to find another mid-boost board that small might be a problem though...

Forum user CA Feathers has done some pretty cool mods too. This ones a winner in my book... Chet's Highway 1 mod

You don't see many Strats wired up like that! :D

Outstanding job Andy. Didnt realize you made the body as well. My routing question should have been "any extra routing for a standard strat body"

I'm curious to see how this extremely versatile mod would work with an HHH setup wit coil-taps, S-1 switching, blower (passing lane) switch and TBX/25dB Mid-boost circuit.

You can't go wrong with three humbucking Lace Sensor duallies in various kinds of flavours and more than 27 pickup combinations to choose from.

Did you have the same schematic for HHH pickups?

Are you a huge fan of the AANJ neck system?

Well, check out Ed Roman's Pearlcaster guitars, they have the AANJ neck attachment you're craving for!

After everyone else's schematics, diagrams and well-heeled endeavors, I'm almost reluctant to post my switching mods. They're very simple yet effective.

I put a push/pull pot on my middle (tone) potentiometer which turns on the bridge pickup no matter where the selector switch is set. That way I can have:
(Normal)
Bridge
Bridge+Middle
Middle
Middle+Neck
Neck
As well as (Potentiometer Pulled Up):
Bridge+Middle+Neck
Bridge+Neck.

This particular guitar has Pete Biltoft Vintage Vibe SP90 pickups (P90 in a Strat-sized package), a blocked tremolo and .

The mod's not obvious (which is how I like my modifications; I call them "sleepers"), but here's a pic anyway.

One of the best Strat mods out there IMO.
