Well, if you read my other thread you know that I bought a guitar with a strat neck. The rest of the guitar is not. Regardless, I am turning a turd into a polished turd. Need to practice on something. Heck that's how I started repairing vintage audio equipment.

So regardless of how it sounds it is what it is.

So at this point I have sanded off the finish and now I am working on the lacquer based sanding sealer. I have 5 coats so far. Maybe one more today. So at this point i am looking at spray paint. Dupli-color sounds like the best so far but I am not an expert. I was also looking at the Effex Clear Coat they make. Has anyone tried this?

Any other recommendations?

I am also looking at what color and have no idea. I know I don't want pink, yellow, red, purple.......so.......

I post some pictures when I get a chance. The 9 month old boy(Master of the universe..or at least mine) does not like me to be on the computer too long.

Thanks for any info you may have.

I refinished a guitar about a year ago.....and then again over the winter because I didn't like how it came out. I did spray cans and would never do it again. Maybe you'll have better luck, but I found that I spent way, way too much just because it was in cans. If I waited till the spring, with decent temps, I'd use my compressor and HVLP gun. I would say that you would do well to try to borrow a portable setup from someone. I spent $50 on my clear coat alone because I'd spray about 5 coats, let them dry, wet sand and repeat until I was happy with the thickness. I could have cleared an entire car for less money with the real spray gun.

Sorry....sort of turned into a rant towards myself.....

just run it by a body shop. the painter would love an extra $50 to shoot a body.
just help him out and do the prep work yourself. (he will tell you what he wants)

What size compressor do you need? I have a smaller unit.

about a 21 gallon 3HP would work.
you really want a compressor to deliver about twice the CFM as your gun requires.
a pressure regulator/water filter are very important if your gonna paint.

I agree..never tried it but my first thought is to go to a body shop and ask.
Worse they can say is "No."
That's my plan, come the day...

ive tried spraying with cans before... there arew some brands that are good enough to use... but the shop didnt have anything amazing quality wize... compressor all the way... just be sure to do lots of very light coats... you dont want the paint to be at the point of running...

another trick some of the guys do is on the final clear coat while its still wet spray an extreemly light layer of thinners on it, this gets rid of any of the bumps and in perfections... do it wrong and you can compleatly stuff up the entire job...
