New to actually posting to this site but been lurking for awhile. Recieved a MIM Strat from my lovely wife last for my birthday and have been taking lessons for about a year, still learning. That said, I have not seen anything posted about products like Fast-Fret. Are they worth using or just snake oil? Thanks for your inputs.

Fast Fret's okay, but I just clean my strings with mineral oil. Waaaaay cheaper, and I like it better. Won't hurt your guitar. You can drink the stuff. Seriously, FDA approved for human consumption.

Just a small squirt on the corner of a paper towel and give each string a quick cleaning. Wipe away any excess with a towel or paper towel. Won't hurt the fingerboard. Takes away the crud and leaves a protective layer behind. Next time you play, it doesn't feel oily...just silky.

Couple bucks for a 3 year supply.

Baby oil is mineral oil with a little fragrance. Most lemon oil as sold in the grocery store in the cleaning aisle if mineral oil with a little lemon in it. Or just get pure mineral oil in health and beauty aisle or pharmacy aisle.

Hi Huse, welcome. I doubt that it's snake oil, but that could work too. It's a good idea to clean the strings regularly. I often forget to do that. I used alcohol, probably not the best, but I read somewhere that mineral oil is good. I'll try that next. Fast Fret is probably OK albeit a touch expensive. But you get an applicator w/it. I'd say it's worth giving it try.

yes yes yes. use it.
all it is is mineral oil. ok first times its "expensive", but you get the key part, the applicator.
when the oil runs out of the applicator, pour some mineral oil in like a baby food jar lid.
set the applicator on it over night. in the morning your app is totally refreshed and ready to use again for months to come.

Wow this is great! I was just digging in my closet & I found an applicator that I forgot I even had, the oil long since used up. Now all I have to do is get the mineral oil. Cheers way cool :D

I like Fast Fret, but don't like the way it builds up if you don't clean it off thoroughly.

yeah ya gotta give it a good light buffing. whats needed will stay on the guitar and the rest will come off in the buff. good stuff when you really understand how and why its used.
i think to many have the wrong ideas about this product lol.
from cowboy chords to steve vai in via application lol. nope.

It's great stuff. But as the others say, buy it once for the Applicator, then when it's dried up use an ultra-light mineral oil or equivalent. I re-charge my applicator with another popular product called "Dr Stringfellow" by Kyser+ Klassics.

A 4oz bottle of this is half the price of FastFret, and lasts about 2 years. It is a pump system so squirts easily and cleanly onto your FF applicator.

I dont think it's an exaggeration to say that regular cleaning wll triple the life of your strings. So it's a no-brainer that will leave you quids in.

I use it,and it makes me sound like I know what I'm doing.
Really,I had stopped using products like that over the years and one night my son gave me some and said he uses it all the time in his busy gigging life...I've used it ever since.

I use this:

Probably basically the same except in a spray.
