I recently sold a few of my favorite guitars to pay off some bills, and promised myself "mo more guitars for awhile"...Well, so much for that....GAS took a bite out of me once again, and I struck a deal on this one that was simply too good to pass up.

While a guitar in this condition might not appeal to everyone, I fell in love with it the moment I saw it. Believe it or not, this one started life in Olympic White, and many years of hard gigging, smoke-filled bars and honky tonks "transformed" the finish into what you see here. The guitar itself is very original, and was one of the last "big headstock" strats of the era. This is the second late 70's Strat I've owned, and although Fenders from this era often get a bad rap, the 2 I have are both tone monsters, and have some of the nicest necks I've ever played... Nice and chunky, without being "too" big.

Strats of this era are generally pretty heavy and this one officially has the title of "heaviest" guitar I own, tipping the scales at a whopping 10 pounds, 4 ounces! The tone is worth the weight though, as the solid ash body resonates and rings notes forever! It was formerly owned by the rhythm player for the Bill Perry Blues Band, and has definitely seen its share of use over the years. I'm pretty excited to add it to my collection, and plan to keep playing it regularly. Here's a few pics...

the is the nicest strat, and i love the change in color from white to butterscotch yellowish,
just the right amount of natural relicing.
these are the strats worth waiting for.

Now that's what I call an honest to goodness relic and not a poseur prop like many of today's guitars.I had a '78 ash bodied Strat that incredibly edged over 11 lbs. but had a monster tone with 8-38 strings and sustained like a Steinway Concert Grand.Congrats on buying a phenominal guitar,I'm sure that you'll enjoy it immensely.BTW the only reason I parted with mine was because after I had a spinal fusion it was too heavy to play so I traded it for a JCM800 2204 1/2 stack-which wasn't too bad a trade at the time.

That's fantastic. If that guitar could talk, I'm sure it would have plenty of stories to tell!!

You lucky dawg you, that is gorgeous. I love the big headstock, have a Warmoth neck on order for my MIM Strat I'm redoing. Cannot for the life of me understand why anybody'd pay an upcharge for a brand new fiddle made to look old. Each to their own i reckon...

Wow. For as much playing as that girl has seen, the neck sure looks to be in fantastic shape. Hardly a mark on the fretboard. Excellent score, sir! 8)

That's exactly how I feel about my '79! Tone monster and my favorite neck ever, chunky and narrow nut width. Fortunately for me, mine is not heavy at all, 7.5 lbs!

Congrats on a gorgeous Strat, really love the color! I love how mine changed over the years as well...
