Will fender be making a 1970's strat is surf green? the one with the bullet
truss rod at the headstock. Not much of color choices. Is Fender trying
to save money and cut back on colors and styles? :?:

The color selection for the MIM '70s Classic re-issue was always a big disappointment, at least to me. Four colors only, and not all of them always available at the same time (3TSB, natural ash, Oly White, and black). I'd love to see a few more options -- like Sea Foam Green, Ocean Turquoise Metallic, Ice Blue Metallic, Firemist Gold, Torino Red......

Anybody in Scottsdale listening?

Yeah but in the 70s those colors weren't really used on strats that much if at all. I swear I've never seen a real 70s strat in any of those colors. It seems they were mostly limited to natural, burst, black, white, mocha, besides of course the international colors.

I suppose you had to have actually been there then.

At various times within that decade the Stratocaster was available in 3TSB, Blonde (ash), Lake Placid Blue, Sonic Blue, Firemist Gold, Olympic White, Black, Ocean Turquoise, Firemist Silver, Candy Apple Red, Natural (ash), Walnut (ash), Antigua, Wine, and Tobacco Sunburst.

(data copied verbatim from Duchossoir's book)

Well I stand corrected, but I have never actually seen one in the flesh in LPB, Sonic, Firemist, or OT. They must have been rare or people must be holding on to every surviving example. I knew about the Antiguas and Wine red, just forgot to list them. Fender has released an Antigua 70s strat before, I believe it was MIJ IIRC.

Pink Paisley and Blue Flower were also available on a limited, special-order basis for a couple of years early in the decade.

Many of those other colors I've never actually seen either. But it would be nice if the '70s Classic re-issue were available with a wider palette of colors to choose from.

It'd give me a plausible alibi for my wife as to why I need a new guitar.

a friend had one of the pink paisleys, it sounded GREAT, he fell on hard times and offered to sell it to me for $200, but at that time I was narrowminded and only played "G-brand" guitars.
I can't tell you how many times i've kicked m'self for passing on that deal........

Paraphrasing Bubba Clinton, "I feel your pain!".

Regrettably, we're all members of that "club".
