Absolutely, sometimes we cannot see the forest for the tree's.
Every so often i will bring my guitar to john @ WMC just because I'm stumped. I prefer to set up and tweak my guitars myself, but sometimes I need advice on some detail I am unsure about..

I would recommend a setup. Check out some of the music stores, call around and get estimates. If you can talk to the tech and find out the experience and knowledge.
Go for it!

Keep Jammin! Enjoy Life!

Yes I recommend a professional set up at a minimum every 2 years. In my neck of the woods it can run $45 to $75. I do not adjust my own necks. My last experience doing my own neck made me ruin one.

It may bring renewed life back to your guitar. Just make sure you tell them what you like.

There is nothing wrong with getting any guitar properly set up by a professional at least once. If you plan on hanging onto the guitar long-term you may consider getting a pro setup every five years, while doing your own setups/adjustments/tweaks every six months in between that time.

Any guitar that sounds good or is capable of sounding good is well worth a quality set up.Believe me,if you get your guitar set up the way you like it,it will feel like a new instrument. As other have stated a set-up should cost in the sub $100 region but make sure that it's done by a qualified tech or luthier not by some pimple popper with a weekend job at GC.

Absolutely get a proper set up. It may help the guitar play much better. Like others have said, get a proper set up every couples years or so......give or take....and make the neccessary adjustments yourself in between.

BTW settle on the brand and gauge of string you'll be using before you get the setup done.If you get it set up for D'Addario 9-42s for instance and then put on a set of Dean Markley 10-46s you'll most definitely have to get a new setup.

for the pickups on that guitar believe me it's worth it they are stock but they can take distortion very well and it doesn't get all trebly in the bridge position... it does give a nice bridge sound (though i kinda like that treble on my vm strat)...

Ralf,

Did you ever order you SE Squier? I lost track of where you were with that decision.

every guitar deserves at least a once a yr tuneup.
a lot of little things can happen over a yrs time that you might
not notice because you are playing it every day.
eventually we allow our guitars to train us. we play according to the changes.
control your guitar, dont let it control you.

I have a Custom Shop guitar, great axe. When I first took it to a setup, we discussed all the parameters: neck relief, action, which strings I like, pickups and so on. The guitar tech told me he likes "treble bleed" so I went for that too.

In short: my guitar was already perfectly set up from the Custom Shop. But now it's even better, because it's set up to my personal likes. And this is what makes a good guitar a great guitar.

So go for it. Every new guitar needs adjustments. To you, as a player.

Cheers

David

no oneal i still don't have my cash together but i'm currently leaning more to my original idea... buying the cv 50 i think that even with the guitar modded it is still low end on a few aspects and i might end up spending a lot on it... i'm still a bit stuck on which to get but i'll let you know where i'm at with that as soon as i make up my mind...

Ralf,

I bought my nephew a CV 50 for Christmas. It was White with maple fretboard and gold aluminum pickguard. Its a sweet guitar and I think you will be happy with the CV 50 all the way.

Best to you. Have a good time at College, as I recall that your headed that way.
