I wrote this in another thread, but thought I'd raise it up as its own topic. A fellow forum member was complaining about lack of info regarding where certain models were made (except for the US made ones which are called "American" this or that).

So I went through a few old Frontlines ('95, '02, & '03) and came up with a list of Country of Origin and First Three digits of Fender's Model numbers.

US: 010, 011, 019 (basses), 015 (custom shop), 110
Mexico: 013, 113, 014
Japan: 025, 027
Korea: 026

Have I missed any? (I didn't try to figure out the Squiers.) Or do you think I have any wrong?

Maybe I wasn't real clear. When you look through Frontline catalogs, you see models listed (along with model numbers), but only the American ones are clearly labeled as to where they were made. But I believe the first three numbers of the model numbers tell you where they were made.

For example, a list of models & numbers (& very useful parts lists etc):

http://www.fender.com/support/diagrams/index.php

If you have a guitar in hand, you probably know where it was made! And the serial number/dating sites are quite useful.

I found a new three digit code (014 on Classic Player models) and added it to the list.

You are welcome, Strataholic (where are the "meetings" held? I should probably attend)!

Fortunately, it seems that Fender has been real consistent with those codes over the years (going back over 10 years at least, probably more). It seems they have added codes, but that's not a real problem (changing the meaning of codes would be a problem with interpretation).

It was a joking reference about your username to Alcoholics Anonymous, you know, "Strataholics Anonymous." I guess I should avoid attempts at humor.
