Need to dress the frets and what size fret file should I be getting from good 'ol stewie mac to crown the frets? I also have a Les Paul 1960 Classic from around 04 or 05 that I will be wanting to dress up at some point as well.

I've decided on getting the double edged files http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Fretting_supplies/Shaping_and_crowning/Double-edge_Fret_File.html.

So, narrow medium or medium wide? I have a 97 strat plus. I would imagine the frets are most likely medium jumbos? I would guess around the same for the LP? Thanks in advance for any advice.

For those two guitars I would use the medium and large files. You can place the file on the fret, and look at it from the side. It should NOT touch the sides of the fret, or you will be filing grooves in you frets. The file should be ever so slightly wider than the fret. :) Also, unless you get a diamond fret file, DO NOT file forwards and backwards.....you will ruin the file. Usually, fret files cut on the push stroke. Good luck! :D

go for the med/wide. the smaller size is for ukes, banjos, mandolin, etc etc.
go diamond if possible. better cut and faster cut.
