Hey guys. I've been thinking of putting one of these pickups into my stock 2009 American Standard Strat's bridge, but it's very difficult to find a guitar like this to play before I commit to the swap. The closest I've come is playing a tele with a JB jr which I really didn't like (it came across as very brittle and "ice pick"-y. Having said that, I'm aware that the Junior and the full-sized humbucker won't sound exactly the same and I've read many rave reviews of the full-sized HB. How different (or better, hopefully) would the normal JB sound? I realize the Junior in a Tele is far from a fair comparison to go by, but it's all I've got.

Thanks!

Well, if it's any help, here's a song I did with a '91 MIM Strat using just the JB (SH4) in the bridge position - - at least it will let you hear what it sounds like :

Good luck!

I put a JB in one of my Strats years ago. I no longer have the guitar, but I thought it had a great sound if your into humbuckers on Strats. I also tried an SD '59, which sounded good but lacked a little power. The JB made it scream!

When I learned that Jerry Cantrell and Ty Tabor both used the JB pickup for some of their best tones, I needed to have one.

I have a HSS strat with the full humbucker in it, and an SSS with with the JB Jr in it. The tones have plenty treble and mids that sing, the harmonics are incredible. You probably want to use them with overdrive, but even on a clean tone, the character of these pickups really gives some grit to your blues.

I was surprised that the JB Jr. sounded as full as it does.

I am now building a Strat using an MIM standard body and neck with a JB humbucker in the bridge and a duckbucker in the neck with no middle pickup. I can't wait to get it done, should be finished next week.

Incase you're still unsure, Kurt Cobain was a huge JB fan because of the fuzziness you can get with the right distortion and because of the versatility that comes with them. He used them in pretty much all of his Jags and Mustangs and many Strats. Plus countless other musicians who swear by them can't be wrong huh?

I think it's a no brainer :D

Anybody have any words of wisdom regarding the JB Jr. vs. the 'Lil screamin' demon for the bridge position?

Hey guys I actually have a couple follow-up questions if you've got the time. How does the JB compare to a P.A.F. style pickup? Or is it considered a P.A.F.? How do the P.A.F.s differ from other more modern humbuckers? Also, how do people feel about a JB vs a lace sensor red (or red/red dually)? I've never played a lace sensor strat.

Thank you!

JB's are a little hotter. To tame the brightness, hook up the bottom tone pot to the JB. Great Choice. You can get a JB to sound like a PAF a lot easier that trying to get a PAF to sound like a JB. 8)
