Fender Customer Relations couldn't ID a Stratocaster I have. A date on the end of the neck is 7-11-94, the Custom Shop chevron 'V' Logo is stamped into the back of the headstock , it's a Mary Kaye see-through finish with gold hardware and it's a Relic and I don't have the CS Certificate for it. This guitar is finished with the yellowish Mary Kaye finish of the earliest relics yet it has a CN serial number whereas Relics begin with the 'R' numbers. This guitar looks, sounds and feels like a very early Relic. Maybe a prototype? John Cruz's name is stamped on the neck with the early, 'lasso' Custom Shop logo. I thought the first relics weren't available until 1995. Maybe this one is a real early one from '94 parts. Can anyone help me with this guitar's history? How do I post a photo of it? Thank you, CAM[/img]

When did you buy it? Perhaps an earlier owner did the relic job himself.

You are right about official Fender Relics starting in 1995:

To post pictures, you have to put your pictures at some site like flickr or village photos or ...

Ah, hah! Relic prototypes debuted at the Winter 1995 NAMM show. That was in January. 1995, right? Then, it's probably a '94 guitar was used. The Relic finish on this guitar is professional...and it's a Cunetto Mary Kaye finish and the gold hardware is aged...and it sounds like a Cunetto Relic! Thanks,

Have you removed the neck to see if it belongs to the body? That might answer a few questions.

Yes, I removed the neck and there's not a date on the end of it. Only the John Cruz stamp and the Fender Custom Shop 'Lasso' logo. The body has the Fender Custom Shop 'Chevron' logo stamped into the top of it, under the pickguard. And there's no certificate or it. It looks like the Cunetto finish: A semi-clear, yellowish finish and looks like Cunetto relicing...Thank you.

Yes, you could have an early Cunetto relic job. The first bunch he did could have been from guitars made in 1994, but you don't have much evidence that yours is one of the first two shown at NAMM.

Maybe try to find pictures to see what those two were.
