This got me thinking of Steve Gaines' Tone in "That Smell". Just may be the definiton of Strat tone.

And still no one answered the askers original question about how to play like Bobby Fuller. Amazing 5 pages talking about various other artists. Well hopefully the asker found an on line link to the tune he asked about and has been working for the last couple of years on the piece.

As for my take on all of it. Nothing beat the sound of 60's and 70's masters of rock on their Strats. Everyone out there today is playing some variation of what these guys and the only woman strat player I can think of from back then Bonnie Raitt-were doing.

I feel the true strat tone has to be Buddy Holly. Everything else is just adding to that.

The tone on Little Wing as played by Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Either of those interpretations embody to me the best strat sound ever.

David Gilmour has plenty of monster riffs and lead breaks with a similar tone. I couldn't pick one out of the three that's the best, but if someone held a gun to my head and said "choose one", I'd have to go with SRV.

Here's a link to my myspace music. Look for the JJ Opus Warm Up Demo track. Its all 100% stratocaster and the Fender Superchamp XD recorded on Audacity using a Blue Snowball Mic.

That's my take on the strat!
