Check this out

It's Chris Duarte. Some nice "Texas" Strat tones there.
He's got quite a few other videos there too.

Check out the "Sweet Tea" album by Buddy Guy if you want classic Strat. Remember Budy Guy... he taught Jimi!

Well, not literally! But you are right about that album. It's one heavy slab of electric Blues!

I really like John Fruciante's tone in RHCP's 'Under The Bridge', and 'Sikamikanico'.
It feels very raw, you know? Just a 62 Strat, and a cranked Marshall. :D

Frusciante, John Mayer (Gravity especially), Robert Cray!!! That Jerry C guy on YouTube doing Canon D is also VERY sick (yes, I meant tonewise). Also, can't forget Clapton although sometimes it is a little eh.

There's just too many strat tones to choose from. Jimi, Trower, SRV, Surf, Mark Knopfler, George Harrison, David Gilmour....etc. I'm just happy the strat is such a versitile instrument.

Agreed! I'm also a big fan of Jimmie Vaughan (especially with the T-Birds) and Marshall Crenshaw (especially his early stuff-Sonny Landreth didn't play on all his albums and even then not all the cuts). I think they're both underrated Strat players.

Gilmour

Nothing sounds as great as a Floyd solo, a personal favourite is the tone he has on Dogs

The 'Remember That Night' dvd is really nice also

It's so hard to pick just one song..... But, as far as the picker goes - not a problem - David Gilmour!!! I'm in way way trying to neglect or put down any of the many, many terrific Strat players out there - to list them all would take several pages!

But as for me personally, no one comes close to David Gilmour. I can't pick just one song though. I can listen to him (on his own or with 'Floyd) for hours on end!

Yeah, I agree Gilmour is probably my fav Fender player. No one has such pristine tone as he does.

Another worth mentioning is Jeff Beck. What he can do with a trem is amazing.

How about the Steve Miller Band on "Book of Dreams", or "Fly like an Eagle"
How about Richie Blackmore on many Deep Purple recordings.
How about the Edge from U2 on their early stuff
Always did like Yngwie too

This thread just kinda proves that there is no "strat tone". The strat is versitile enough to cover a lot of genres. Texas blues, surf, hard rock, jazz, country....it's all in there. The classic strat tone is whatever you need it to be. That's what makes the strat the perfect solid body electric axe.
