ok so i'm thinking about getting a squier SE strat for me to use as a guitar for me to mod but i have a few questions about it before i can say "this is what i want!! "...

-does the SE strat have a finished neck?

-would it sound good with a sh-4 jb in the bridge position?

-what do you think of the overall guitar?

the neck isn't finished . overall its a decent guitar, when compared to american made guitars. Im not familiar w/ the pickup you mentioned but give it a go.

My young son got a SE last year as part of the SE starter pack. IMO it is a good guitar for the money and is ripe for a pickup upgrade.

If you plan to mod, I gotta suggest Craigslist. You'll easily find the same thing for half the price or move up the line quite a bit for the same price. Since you're modding anyways, look for very low prices with the words "for parts" or "isn't working" in the ad. I've picked up guitars for as little as $25 because the seller was clueless about wiring and thought that something major was broken when in reality, the wires simply needed to go to the right places.

The agathis is great. I actually like it. N look around because I was in Sam Ash yesterday and saw this guitar for $80

yeah won't work... european customs are pretty picky when it comes to big packages coming from the US

somebody in another post told me this... "A bigger concern is that low-end guitars often use non-standard parts and non-standard specs/dimensions. Some Squiers have bodies that are thinner than standard so they need trems with shorter blocks, which limits the upgrade options. Some Squiers have had pickups that are slightly different sizes than standard Strat pickups. It might not be routed for a full-size humbucker, or the nut might be thinner or thicker so standard nut blanks won't fit, or a host of other minor obstacles to upgrading.

I know nothing about Squier SE Strat Packs. They may be fine platforms for mods and upgrades. But do your research -- it's very possible it would be easier and cheaper in the long run to start with something a little higher priced. Or to start with individual parts. Or to start with a somewhat higher-end used guitar instead of a low-end new guitar."

which leads me tothe following questions:
-are there any diferences from the SE strat to a standard strat?

-does anyone know definately if the bodies can fit a full humbucker in the bridge?

-do you think i should go with another guitar? (i was considering a cv 50's strat in LPB originally but i'm not financially prepared lol plus i need to drill 3 holes if i go ahead with it)

The only differences are the pickups and body wood. Agathis on the Squier SE Strat & Alder on the Standard. Maybe it's just my guitar, but standard hardware fits it well.

I have my share of Squiers that are modded. The SE that I have is a full thickness body. The bridge spacing is smaller than a Fender Strat, but the same on all Squier models. It's called "import spacing" if you're ever looking to replace any bridge parts. I've been able to put any standard sized humbucker like Dimarzio, Duncan, etc..In them. However, depending on the Squier pickguard (like a Bullet), you might find the routed spaces to be rounded at the corners. So a pickup like a Gibson with squared off corners won't fit without squaring the corners yourself.
Also, any Standard Fender pickguard will fit. You just might find that the holes don't always line up. But that will usually happen anyway. Even if you were to swap two fender pickguards on a Standard Fender..

The SE Strats do have finished necks. They don't sell them unfinished. The biggest concern usually it that the fret-jobs can be inconsistent with lower level models and need fretwork fairly soon after buying new. You'd be taking a slight gamble not being able to physically check for buzzes before buying.

For the most part, you can do a lot of mods with these guitars with ease as long as you stay with compatible import spacing concerning hardware. Fender switches will fit, sometimes you may need to make the holes for the volume and tone pots bigger to use Fender CTS pots.

Whether it's a Squier SE, Standard, Infinity, CV, you'll still run across generally the same specs. CV's and more higher end Squiers will usually be built with more care in their brand new state.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Great necks but narrow nut so small finger needed. I put a new wider nut on mine.
