GHS Boomers for me 010s on my Strats and Teles, or the GHS David Gilmour Blue set.

011s on my Les Paul and Dot. Seem to last long and I never break 'em.

ok so you might even find that you actually dont like either brand of the strings i mentioned. thats ok too, some dont. thing is, if your brand new strings are going dull in 8 hrs of play time something just isnt right. ok its possible in some rare cases, but i just think there is something thats slipping past you and your not seeing it as the cause.
ok, do any of your friends play your guitars too by chance? do you live sea side?
(i would die to live sea side in your country. the food, the people, the music, the women,
the ocean. lol i could go on and on)
this problem of yours has me puzzled. im interested in trying to help you find this cause of premature string dullness.

Hey, thanks for all that! You are right, I live by the seaside, and the ventilation is constantly on in my home studio. While no one else plays my guitars, your assumption on the location could be right. I am a lucky bastard that my fingers don't sweat, so I can play with the same strings for ever;while they will always shine, they will sound dull. On the other hand, the gibson technician that set up my guitar long time ago, said that gibson proposes string life between 5-10 hours (not chords, but bending blues solos, etc). Don't know if that's correct, but surely the sound out of my tube amp is not as good after playing the same strings for more than 8 hours (I play on a RIVERA 55-112).

Anyway, I will try D'Addarios once more!

well if that tech told you that too, theres your sign. try different string again like i suggested. i think you might like them. seside will also damper the tone of strings quick.
those RIVERA 55-112 amps rock. i like RiverA amps. quality built.

It's a pitty there are not enough videos on youtube about that amp. So many people don't know it and can't appreciate it. I fell in love with it after trying some tube Marshalls and a VOX AC30. The only thing though, since they run on 6CA7 tubes, low bass freqs aren't as evident as on a Fender tube amp... But how could we ever have it all out of one box? :)

the amp knobs are really effective, even a change from 4 to 5 on the mids would be easily distinguished, the same on the highs, on the BASS it would make no big deal. I think it's the way those tubes handle bass... of course things would possibly change to better with the addition of a 2x12 cabinet, but then my wife will kick me out of the house...

I prefer a Telecaster with Fender 250 9-42`s. I owned and played a very nice Strat but am a Tele man through and through.

The Music Zoo has a used Rivera for sale. Appears to be in great condition.

I made a hybrid set of Slinky's 11,17,23,30,46,52. those a some phat strings. The tone is very low. I like the sound but not for every day jammin. I need another guitar for that setup. I had to add extra bridge springs.
