My new Strat came w/bullets. My fingertips turned black after 5 minutes. ATM I'm using Elixirs. 9-42 & 10-46. They do indeed last longer. They also seem pretty balanced. They supposedly don't corrode (i.e. the wound strings) because of the coating, so I guess if you don't play a lot they'll last even longer. But because of the cost, I'm going to try D'addarios or Ernie Balls next. Probably nickel wounds.

you will like either one of these.

D'Addario's and Ernie Ball's are both great strings. Ernie Ball's just last a little longer that's all. Ernie Ball's are still going strong after a month. D'Addario's start to corrode and die after a month.

For me it's gotta be Rotosound Roto Blues, light top heavy bottom, perfect for fuzzy, warm Eb grunging around.

Although most of my guitars have strings from all over the place after I break one and just grab a random one out of my box, got one guitar with like 3 different gauges on it. Also use a heavy B in the G for another, actually works pretty well.

After all I have a laid back attitude to guitar maintenance and purists want to burn me at the stake, but what's wrong with being an individual.

Keep on rockin' in the free world.

Whoa :!:  Where did we end up with the Forum member whose fingers were turning black. Did we absolutely eliminate the strings as a possible cause?? :?

GHS boomers on my Epiphone, GHS nickel rockers on my Am. Std. Strat. The boomers are way too trebly for a Fender, in my opinion.

Yea, it was the strings, but TBH, they were on a guitar that I bought "new" in the box in Nov."08, while the guitar is an MZ7, so there was plenty of time for the strings to corrode. For the record, I never actually bought new bullets to try out, therefore I can't fully attest to their quality.

I must be a freak, Fender Super Bullets 3250L (Gauge 9's)

They dont last that long, but by god do they make a nice tone while they are fresh.

Like your quote: Shades of Woody Guthrie, who had on his guitar "This machine kills fascists" and Pete Seeger who still has on his banjo "This machine surrounds hate and forces it to surrender."

I have several different guitars and several different tunings for several different projects ;........for standard tuning on electric guitar I use .10 gauge Ernie Ball's. I've tried various brands but these are my favorites at the moment. I also play with a band that tunes down a whole step and for that I used D'addarrio .12 gauge with a plain 3rd string for a couple years until recently switching to D'addarrio .11's. For open G tuning, I'll use .11's or .12's, whatever I happen to have around. For open E tuning, I'll use .10's or lighter if I have them, which I seldom do have anything lighter than .10's.

On acoustic guitars I expiriment quite a bit with strings. Recently put some .12 gauge coated Martin strings on an Alvarez. It's my first expirience with coated strings. I have two acoustics and a resonator and I usually try to use .11's or .12's.

Oh yeah, and Elixir Phosphor Bronze .12s on acoustic. They sound great for a LONG time. Stupid electric strings only last 2 weeks or until I get really mad at the guitar though...maybe I need to check out Elixir's electric strings.
