Hi all! was wondering if anyone can tell me what wood is used in the body of my '04 MIM strat. Basic question I know but I don't find the info anywhere. Thanks so much!

I've heard from various guitar techs that the MIM Strats are made out of Poplar. It has a different lighter, brighter, tone than Alder, Basswood, and of course Ash.

Ah! Interesting! I keep trying to get it to sing like my 62 RI but... I put 54 CS pups in it and I like the tone better- more transparent. Was thinking of try a steel trem block next hoping for a bit more life. Maybe poplar is the root of the issue here though. Overall I'm pretty happy with it, I just am constantly trying to tweak stuff. I'm one of those never quite happy with my tone guys! Thanks for your thoughts!

MIM ´04 Body is 5/7 pieces of Alder

Several pieces laminated with a veneer top and back to give a smooth surface for painting, but the veneer is not on the arm bevel on the front.

Only the Sunburst finished guitars get a veneer. There is no guarantee of how many pieces of wood are used (I've a 3 piece Powerhouse body and a one piece tele, neither are veneered). The body wood is alder on all but some teles that are ash..
