Has anybody switched out their stock 250k tone and/or volume pots for 500k's? I put a hot rails humbucker in the bridge and it sounds muddy, so I was thinking about making the switch.

Did you change the cap size?

What did it do to your volume and tone?

I also rewired the Strat so that I have only one volume and one tone knob, but that's another story...doing that allowed me to move everything down on the pickguard (I got sick of hitting the volume knob with my picking hand - I can live with the hole in the pickguard...there's no guilt when you modify a MIM strat :-)

Thanks for the feedback!

The 500k would be appropriate for the humbucker, but your single coils will get a little brighter.

I usually use a .047uf cap on a tone control - it's the same at 10, but darker at 1.

I did the same thing, but I had Warmoth make a new one with the "volume deleted" option so I have no extra holes. In White Pearl it was about $30.

Thanks for the tip on the pickguard. Heck, while I'm at it and since the warmoth pickguard would give me the option, maybe I'll move the five-way switch a half inch over, too.

You'll have to check with Warmoth on that, if they offer it, there might be an additional charge. They don't charge extra to delete standard holes (lees work for them I guess), but I don't know if they deviate from standard positions.
